I have been on lovenox for the past 7 months due to deep vein trombosis. I have been told to quit taking it 48hrs before my c-section. Is this enough time? I am very concerned. Please give me any further information that might help me. My surgery is scheduled for July 30th.
I work in health care in have dealt with Lovenox indirectly. I think that they can do a blood test to determine your bleeding time after you quit taking it. I would share your concerns with your doc, as it is your body and although I know you hate to second guess your doc, it is ultimately your body, and it would make you feel better. Good luck!!
Hi mom39, I am a RN and that should be plenty of time. There have been times when we have to change somebody from lovenox to heparinHeparin Heparin sodium Heparin sodium-sodium chloride ( another blood thinner) and the pharmacy will tell us that we have to wait at least 8 hours after the last lovenox shot; meaning it is usually out of the body by that time. There is not a blood test for lovenox. If you were on coumadin or heparin they could check your INR or PTT to check if the meds need to be increased or decreased but there is not one for lovenox. I hope this helps.
I am also on Lovenox and do injections everyday (to prevent blood clots). I am not sure about when to stop it for a c-section, but I have a question for you..........I am only 5 weeks, but when I'm further along and my tummy is sticking out, how to you give yourself injections on your sides? I don't go to the doctor till Aug. 1, so I just thought I'd ask here first. Good luck to you and these ladies sure do have great advise! :)
You may not be aware....most people aren't....There is a lab test for lovenox......it is called antifactor xa. Ptt does not work for low molecular weight heparins because the ptt is not altered that much but antifactor xa is. I am on lovenox and I am 14 weeks pregnant. I am an rn on a special care floor (progressive/ cardiac) we do not routinely measure this (anti f xa)unless renal function is impaired or over active because this affects the life of the med in the body. Also in pregnancy( renal clearance is greatly increased durring 2nd and 3rd trimester.) Most doctors just order heparin in renal patients if needed because antifactor xa is a send out test in most hospitals and too unpredictable in renal patients(ptt much quicker)
