It was a long time ago that I had the ectopic, so I didn't try again for 15 years!  I immediately went on the pill for 12 years after that.  The tube is not connected on that side.  The OB told me it should not effect my chances of getting pregnant in the future.  It didn't, but I never got pregnant by accident, I had to try.  I had a son 4 years ago.  Last year I had a miscarriage, and right now I am almost 10 weeks pregnant.  Though I haven't had fertility issues, I have had some bad luck with pregnancies.  I think the rule of thumb is usually 3 months to try again.  I was 14 weeks when I had my miscarriage, and he told me to wait 3 months, though I waited 6 or 7.

I had my first hcg test right around 5wk.. it was low, so he knew something wasn't right. he continued to test hcg and do u/s to 6wk. Since there was nothing in the uterus and the numers were still low we decided it was ectopic for sure. I did the shot. A week later my hcg was going down but not enough, so I did another shot. A week after that, my numbers were dropping, but I started having chest pains. I went to the ER and my tube was rupturing, so it had to be removed. Once my tube was removed the hcg dropped below 5 (neg) within two days. That was at 8wk2d. I think my hcg was around 1200, when I took the first shot.

I've seen it go down fast for some and really slow for others. Sometimes it can drop really well and then kinda stay at one level for a while.

if you need anything else let me know.  I hope it works out for you.

Hi chiromom, Yes there is a 2 to 3% chance of an Ectopic with IVF, if you do some online readings you will find that actually the stimulation drugs used for fertility treatments can increase that chance for an Ectopic, but it still rare. Just bad luck! and how about you, how lond did take you after the Ectopic for you to get pregnat?
All imputs help, right now, thank you for all the support...

Hello, and thank you so much for the kind message. How far were you in the pregnancy when they found out that was an Ectopic? and how lond did it take for your HCG to go down to Zero? Like you said my RE said Yesterday when I spoke to him, that once my HCG goes down to Zero I can start the cicle again. I have a lot of Frozen ones that I can use. One more question Tanker: How lond after your Ectopic did you get pregnant?
Just thoughts of hope...

I didn't know that you could have an ectopic with an IVF.  I'm so sorry to hear that you had to go through that.  I had an ectopic that required surgery - but it wasn't an IVF.

most of the lit says 3 months but my dr did not make me wait that long before trying. He said it doesn't stay in your system that long.  I think the three months is a safety net, because there are no real studies on it. You do however have to wait for your hcg to go down, and that can take a while. best of luck to you.
