NTand papp-A: yr thoughts on final risk factor ??

I just think it would maybe be helpful if i knew how you girls think: those of you who had the NT and the papp-A blood draw, what was yr final risk factor and how did it make you feel? Are you going to accept an amnio or cvs?
It seems that my NT was really good at first, since it made me go down from 41 yrs to 15 yrs!-dr said..but then, although i wasn't worrying about it,my papp-a was rather low leaving my final risk factor for ds at 1:1150 and elevating my risk for trisomy 18+13  from 1:1360 to 1:550....I was praying for wonderful numbers so that i can avoid the amnio,so now i don't know.WHAT IS good numbers for you?Does any of you have a dr that claims that ''all women over  35 should have an amnio?''(my previous dr was like that). On the other hand i know people-including my dr's wife who had smthig like 1:500 for ds and still didn't have an amnio, only to have perfectly healthy babies. Am i being paranoid or what ?

Paranoid?  I don't think so.  I had a "consultation" with DR #2 today to try to get some positive feedback on getting pregnant at 38 (will deliver at 39).  Both DR's immediately began talking about amnios.  I am not even pregnant yet and I am debating which tests to do.  I am worried (worrying is what I excel at).  Based on what the others have told you about the numbers (statistics confuse me), you look really good.    Wish you the best, whatever you decide.

I think those are great numbers...  I'd try not to focus on it too much.. like mlb wrote, that means you have a 99.82% of having a baby without trisomy.

best of luck to you!!

1/550 means you have a 0.18% chance of having a trisomy 13/18 baby. And a 99.82% chance of NOT having a trisomy baby.  Sounds like good odds to me that you will NOT have a trisomy baby.  Before you opt for amnio you can always have the level 2 ultrasound and have them check for soft markers of trisomy of which there are many...choroid plexus cyst, clenched hands, strawberry shaped face, etc.  My sisters doctors wife had a baby with a  1:42 chance of having down's but the baby was totally healthy.  I think you are slightly paranoid because of your past history.  There is no need to jump straight to the amnio.  Also feel free to get a second opinion by another doctor or genetic counselor.  Best of luck - I hope everything works out for you.
