Thanks! Now I can start worrying about labor and delievery... We moms always find something to worry about!
Best wishes to everyone in their pre-natal testing choices!
I am way behind on everything right now, but still...wanted to congratulate you on your healthy little girl!! Sounds like you made the right choices for you and it's so nice to be able to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Congrats again!!
Before doing the tri-test, I was sure I would get an amnio because of my age! After the results, I changed my mind. Discuss the tests and their benefits and risks with your ob-gyn and hopefully it will help you make the right decision for yourself!
Thanks Ecologic. I go back and forth. Though I am 38, if I had turned up pregnant without knowing my FSH and AMH and without the donor egg speech, I don't think I'd be worring so much. I come from an extrememly healthy and large family that has had no problems having strong, healthy babies. I may still do the CVS as it seems that may also be possible as early or even earlier than the quad screens. I cannot wait for my first U/S next Monday. I'm so ready to know thy things are progressing normally / well so far.

Hi,
I had my amnio - just to let you know they're done between 15 to 20 weeks.
Congrats on your results - best wishes !
My FISH results, which are the preliminary results for the CVS and the Amnio too came in about 4 days. This is later than usual for FISH results only because I had the CVS done during the Thanksgiving week holilday.
There definately isn't one way to go when it comes to prenatal testing. There are pros and cons for each. Everyone has to make choices that are best for them. Many of us over 35 moms go with the quad-test and things turn out as it did with Ecologic.
I had a pregnancy last year in which I sent with the quad test and the results didn't indicate any problems. However, I learned at the 20 week ultra sound and subsequent amnio that my baby had a rarer chromosomal abnormality that the quad screen doesn't screen for. I lost that baby.
There is so much to think about mostly the odds for a healthy baby are excellent but over 35 potentially we do have more things to be concerned about.
Best wishes...
I am the person you want to hear from :-) ! In November as I was turning 41, we had our tri-test (or quad-test, never sure what is what) at 12-13 weeks: nuchal was good (1.6), ultrasound normal and blood test for down syndrome was 1/1200. The blood test was repeated at 16 weeks and was 1/1600 (and trisomy 18 was 1/43000 and spina bifida was 1/3600). We decided to skip CVS or amnio, I don't even worry about any genetic problem anymore.
I am 38 and just 5w1d. After reading about so many ladies' experiences, I am leaning towards skipping all the screening test and doing the CVS around week 11. It seems to me that most of us "older" gals are going to be given results/odds that make us uncomfortable and make us want to have the CVS or Amino anyway. (I would love to hear from anyone just under 40 or over 40 that had screening results that made them totally comfortable with skipping CVS and Aminio.)
How long did it take to get your CVS results?
Thanks for all of the supportive comments! My CVS was done with a transvaginal catheter, as opposed to a method similar to the amniocentisis. A CVS harvests genetic material from the placenta. The advantage to the amnio is that a CVS can be performed as early as 10 weeeks, from what I know, where an amnio can not be performed until about 20 weeks. A amnio is slightly more conclusive also from what I understand but CVS is very highly accurate as well. Both procedures care risk as does every medical procedure.
Best wishes to all!
I wrote a long description the other day of my procedure under the thread "experience with CVS test?"
I would like to add - I am happy the results came out well for you!
May I ask what was the procedure for CVS like?
This is great to read! I'm waiting for my CVS results now, and I'm hoping to be in your place in a few more weeks!
