Progesterone suppliments. When are they necessary?

Hi all,

New BFP so I'm totally clueless. I went through infertility treatments w/ clomid + trigger. I hear so many women go on progesterone or prometrium suppliments. When does the doc know that this is the route to go?

I'm just so nervous. My good friend from H.S. went through 3 miscarriages for unknown reasons and prometrium worked. The doc said that during the clomid monitoring my lining looked good. My day 21 progesterone before the infertility treatment was 3.3. My day 3 FSH was a 10. I just want to know what to bring up for my appt. on Friday.

Sorry if I sound like a big worry wort. I just waited so long for this to happen and am in shock that it is.

Thanks for the advice. This is why I like these boards. It helps me asks the questions I should be asking because I'm going in and moving through blind in this process (so not cool).

Got the progesterone on order and will start tonight. So grateful for the help. :)

Congratulations to you on your BFP!

I am going on chlomide and progesterone as well.  In my case its a result of a couple of m/c's.  As the others said, progesterone certainly won't hurt anything, and may help prevent a m/c.  Good luck to you, I hope all goes well.

your body will only absorb the progesterone it needs, so there is no harm in taking it even if you don't need it.  If they haven't checked your levels since the BFP they need to - if it is anything below 21 they should but you on progesterone - just to be safe.  I would highly suggest you ask for it!!  Good luck!

Now the doc told me in reality that 3.3 was off. It seems that it being tested that day missed the peak window to know the true number. I guess more or less I had luteal phase defect so we don't know what my true levels are.

She said that usualyl the protocol is to put someone on endometrium or clomid. Seeing that I was on Clomid and I had 3 follicles, they said then my progesterone is now "naturally" high. But she said if I wanted the endometrium, it couldn't hurt.

I'm calling my OB for a 2nd opinion. If it can't hurt, I'll take it. They said I'm at 4 weeks and there is a 50% chance of it keeping.

Now I regret telling my parents and 2 very, very close friends. But more mad at my husband who wound up telling like 6 people (3 of them big mouths). I was fine with 2 people but not 6. :(

I hate this waiting game of worry.

Thanks. Calling now. Remember the 3.3 (yes I said 3 point 3 :) ) was before I even started any infertility treatments. It was my day 21 test.

But yes, I"m calling now. This has been on my mind all night.

Thanks

My dr checked mine at 4wk2d.  It was 20 which is slighly below average (21).  48 hours later it dropped to 16 and then 48 hours after that it dropped to 11. I was put on progesterone and my son is now 10wks old.

Was your progesterone 3 or 33??  If it's 3 you should call your doc RIGHT NOW.  If it's 33 then you are OK.
Congrats on your BFP!

did he never check your progesterone?  uff if it was 3 you should be on progesterone...  ask today... if you wait too long and it is low you could have a m/c,,.. call and ask now...  they should check you now and start them just in case... day 21 should be over 10 or 15 on a non preg. cycle..
