I am 21 weeks and have been getting headaches everyday for at least 3 weeks, in the begining of my pregnancy I was getting mirgaines which are not new to me. I have been getting them since i was 12. Anways a couple things, with the migraines in early pregnacny i read in my book that it can be caused my cheese. now being pregnant obviously we cant eat soft cheeses but i did notice i had eaten old cheddar everday i had a migraine. I love old cheddar but since giving it up i have had no migraines (knock on wood) something in it reacts with some pregnancy hormone. WEIRD< the other thing worth mentioning is my doctor told me to put a hot water bottle on my feet when i get a headache this brings the blood down to your feet and away from your head. it seems to work! he also told me to take tylenol but it doesnt help at all.
I also get migraines. They were the worst at 10-16 weeks then started to go away. I am now 30 weeks and have had headaches, but no migraines. It really ***** you can't take anything good, just a nap which can be really inconvienent. I was also given tylenol 3 with codine but it did not help. I had been off caffine for over a year before becoming pg and try a soda first when I have a headache coming on. I don't like taking even regular tylenol unless I have to. Hopefully, they will subside soon for you.
i am only 2 months but i also get really really bad headachs to the point where i feel like my head is going to explode, i find no name tylonol works better i pop two and then sleep for an hour or so and then im fine
I'm sorry to hear you're having headaches - I've suffered from migraines since I was 10 years old and it is AWFUL... so I can totally relate. And it's miserable not being able to take what you usually take for relief when you're pregnant. I got migraines a LOT during my first trimester and occasionally during my second. I had them pretty much every week and they'd last for about 2 days. Now in my third they have become very few and far between (knock on wood!) which has been such a relief. When I had migraines in my 1st and 2nd, I was able to tolerate two Tylenol "rapid release" gels and they did take the edge off - but I agree w/you, in general Tylenol does absolutely nothing for headaches. What helped me was laying down, drinking plenty of water, turning off any bright lights or sounds (don't watch TV, this makes it so much worse!), and using a hot compress on my head wherever it hurt the most. Some people prefer cold; I've always preferred hot, but that's up to you. I have this herbal pillow thing that I stick in the microwave until it's super hot, and set it on my head. It helps. It may also help to eat a little sugar; sometimes low blood sugar can contribute to a headache. Go to bed early and try to take naps if at all possible. Again, sorry you're having to endure the headaches and I know how miserable it is. Hang in there! And congrats on your pregnancy. :)
I started getting headaches around 12 weeks and they stopped last week (14th week). I had very *very* rarely suffered from headaches ...most of mine usually occurred if I had a sinus infection. So when I started getting them a few weeks ago, it boggled my mind!! lol I still think they were mostly sinus related headaches, because I've been waking up all stuffy. Just another joy of pregnancy! =D
I had headaches about 12 weeks, and since tylenol does nothing for me, I didnt' take anything. I researched it and found that if you used a heating pad on your feet it draws the blood flow away from your head and down to your feet, so it lessens the pain. I tried it and it worked for me (at least it lessened the intensity). It was a nice non-medicated remedy. Hope that helps!
thanks for aall your suggestins and support. I will talk to my dr at my next appt. I use the ice pack and dark room. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't.. I hope they go away sooner than later... Thanks ladies!!
Hi,
I get aweful migraines also, unfortuatly they didnt go away at 18/20 weeks. My Dr prescribed Fioracet. (sp) its basicly tylonel with caffeen and a mild barbituate. I dont like taking them but when they get really really bad i have to.
They dont make me sick, just very sleepy.
Good luck
Kazwel
My OB-GYN told me that headaches in early pregnancy are due to rising hormone levels. Hopefully your headaches will stop soon, like LACh1's, as you get further along in your pregnancy. Good luck!
hi, i am now 21 weeks and i have only in the last few weeks stopped haivng the headaches. Apparently they are hormonal and after talking to my doc found out they will go away after about 18 / 20 weeks. I am not sure what else to tell you about what you can take except for what your doc has already said except for maybe you could talk to your chemist about some herbal treatments (check they are safe during pregnancy). Drink a lot of water and eat well is all i can say. I hope things start to get better soon and you can get some relief.
hi, im 14 weeks and i never had a headache until i got preg...i have a headache every single day. I know this hot weather is not helping the hotter the worse the headache also when it gets really humid, where its going to rain. i told my Dr and she said i can only take tylenol a preg friend of mine swears by non drowsy sudafed. The best way i find relief is an ice pack and a dark cool room. The dr also said to drink lots of water and eat every few hrs...not sure if i helped but i wanted u to know that u are not the only one! feel better. As the weeks go by the headaches (migrains) seem to lessen.
oh and i would stay away from codiene its very nauseating and pretty strong.
