8 wk gesttional sac, 6 wk fetus no heartbeat

I went in for my 2nd u/s today and the doc said i have had a miscarriage because he couldn't see the heartbeat. There was a  mass in my gestational sac but otherwise he said everything looked fine and everything was it's correct size. But he scheduled me to have a D & C in 5 days. could he be wrong, could it be too early to detect a heartbeat i mean if everything is the correct size so far?.....

It is very common to not see a heartbeat until 8 weeks or a little farther. Doctors are too quick to do a d&c.....I would do it.....make them check a few blood levels to see if they are rising and have another u/s in a week or too. So sorry you are going through this.....I would get a different doc altogether.

i would defo go see another doctor. i would wait to see if you can hear/see the heart beat. doctors make mistakes all the time. and if come to find out he is wrong i would defo never go back and see him!!! good luck

I wouldn't make a definite decision or go through with a D&C until it shows that at 8-10 weeks there is still no heart beat.

My youngest son was almost aborted because we couldnt find a heart beat at 6 weeks. I waited until I was almost 9 weeks for another u/s and finally found one. I was so angry to think that if I went with the doctors opinion I would have aborted a healthy pregnancy and not have my wonderful son today.

I would also suggest that you do HCG level tests every other day for a few days to see if the HCG has declined, if it is doubling or tripling like it is supposed to, then I would def not go through with it unless you cannot find a heart beat at 8-10 weeks. Dates can be behind or ahead by at least 2 weeks. Just because the baby measures 6 weeks, does not mean that you are actually 6 weeks along, baby could just be developing faster in the earlier stages of development.

I am also a fan of letting your body naturally miscarry, medical procedures such as D&C's can cause scar tissue on your cervix and uterus which can make conceiving a lot harder the next go around.

i wouldnt do the d&c. you never know if that little heart could start beating. and if it doesnt, you should try to let the miscarriage happen naturally. d&c can cause weakening of the cervix or scaring. i had a miscarriage at 7.5 weeks and yes you will cramp and such but it only lasted about an hour. i hope the best for you.

I would go for a second opinion just to make sure or at least have them give you another ultrasound in a week or so to see if there was any growth or heartbeat detected.  Good luck and I hope everything works out ok for you.

Well my doctor told me at 6w5d that it was harder to see a heartbeat. Can you have them postpone the D&C until they can do another ultrasound? I would assume that they would do another u/s before proceeding with the d&c but I have never had one so I am not sure how the procedure will go. If you feel uncomfortable with your doctor's decision you can always go for a second opinion.
