Attention medhelp users: Migraine headaches during pregnancy.

Hello Ladies.I'd like some feedback to see what you're experiences, and solutions have been. I'm 29 weeks pregnant. I've been having migraine headaches since I was in my early teens. I've previously read that women who have experienced Migraine headaches prior to Pregnancy tend to have them less during pregnancy.

Typical migraine for me was:
* Severe pain on one side of the head. (Along Jaw, Nose, Cheekbones, Back of Neck, Head, And what seems to be behind the eye.)
* Sometime begin with aura (Warning signs including: Changes in vision, Nausea Etc )
* These Headaches can last for a period of of several days.
* They also seem to be constant in degree of pain.

I've had a pretty tough pregnancy with a Partial placental abruption early on.  I was put on bed rest for a number of months, and had more than a little trouble keeping my food down. I've lost about 20 pounds since I've been pregnant. I am now on various Antibiotics for a UTI, And a Ear, and Sinus infection.

Though Sick I'm a lot better off than where I was a few months ago. And I'm carrying a happy baby boy. :)

But, as a woman who has previously experienced migraines in the past I have still seen them more than a few times during my pregnancy. I'm curious about what you've gone threw!

Migraine headaches can differ quite a bit from person to person. Since your pregnancy have you experienced Migraine (Or other intense headaches) if so
What is a Migraine like for you?
How often do you experience them, and had you prior to pregnancy?
How long do they usually last?
What do you do to relieve your symptoms (Does this include medication?)
Do you encounter certain foods or other things of that nature that seem to trigger them?

Thank you for all your feedback. :)

Hello, I am 18 weeks pregnant and have really suffered from migraines. My OB told me to take tylenol 3 at a time 3 times a day and use a cold cloth but none of that worked. Ive had to go to work with these migraines and ive been miserable. I go to the doctor in a few days. Ive taken hydrocodone but im trying to find out if ANYONE has had any problems from taking it or birth defects.... I need answers! Most of these posts are a few years old. Thank you!

i never had migrains before my first pregnancy but when i got pregnant i had them alot! honestly at that point there wasnt much i could do to help them. i would take tylonal, which never did help and lay in a dark quiet room witha cool wash cloth over my head. i would TRY to sleep til it went away. mine lasted anywhere from 1day to 3 days. and i got them at least once a week. after i had my baby they continued until i got pregnant for a second time and then (like you read) the migraines went away. when i got pregnant with my third, they returned and never left. til this day i get them often. the weather seems to trigger them for me. rainy days and a change in seasons. but here i am now, pregnant with #4 so maybe it will change again.
when i wasnt pregnant tho, i had tried everything to get rid of them. migraine meds never even helped!

I am not prgnant currently - my answers apply to the time I was pregnant (last year)

What is a Migraine like for you?

Severe one-sided head pain that its proceeded by an aura about 30 mins prior.  Lasted 1-12h.

How often do you experience them, and had you prior to pregnancy?

Before pregnancy, I would get a migraine 1-2 times a year.  During the 1st trimester of pregnancy I got them 1-2 times a week!  I didnt have any problems during the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

How long do they usually last?

It varied from 1-12h

What do you do to relieve your symptoms (Does this include medication?)

Drunk lots of water, slept, and the occasional tylenol

Do you encounter certain foods or other things of that nature that seem to trigger them?

Chocolate and nuts would "sometimes" trigger a migraine, but only sometimes.

i've had one during this pregnancy and i've never had one in my life before. it lasted for two days. it made me feel awful. i was vomitting, seeing lights in my vision and basically felt very ill. i checked with my midwife that i didn't have pre eclampsia and then rested as much as i could until the migraine went.
