I don't have much advice. The only thing I can think of is possible the babys position causing it. My kids have all liked to get up under my ribs and a couple of times they pushed a rib out of position causing major pain.
thanks for replying, i was wondering if it was possible that he kicked a rib so hard that it popped it out of place or even broke it...im just so miserable its unbelievable ...it feels like someone with a very big boot is keeping their foot jammed into the middle of my back...i think i'll try some tylonel and hope for the best :(
I can totally sympathize. For whatever reason my kids LOVED to live under my ribs. Made it so uncomfortable for me and really annoying too. Hopefully it is just baby and s/he will change positions soon.
Hey it is safe to use a heating pad as long as it is set on low and doesn't get on your tummy! I hope you feel better and you get good news tomorrow and they stick your butt in the hospital and get Mathew out!
Thanks nickie, im gonna try a shower and see if that helps any...maybe the combination of moving around a little/the warm water will get him to move if its just a positioning thing with the baby...but with my luck he probably busted out one of my ribs lol!
Im hoping and praying for them to give me an induction date at my appointment tomorrow!!! i just dont know how much more of all this i can take...between the contractions and the pre-e and now the rib pain im about to pull my hair out!!
You either need to call your doctor IMMEDIATELY OR head down to L&D NOW.
The pain you describe can certainly originate from pre-eclampsia or eclampsia both of which can pose a life-threatening risk to you and baby. As I recall, you were showing early signs of pre-eclampsia at your last appointment but this wasnt formally diagnosed and you are in the process of a 24h urine collection. Pre-eclampsia can come on very suddenly.
I can not stress to you how IMPORTANT it is that you seek immediate medical advice/attention. Its possible your pain has a different origin but in the event that it is caused from pre-eclampsia you are at extreme risk if you simply wait this out. PLEASE seek help NOW
holy crap, really?! i didnt know that upper/middle back and rib pain was a symptom of pre-e....what does it mean? i'll definitely call the doc!! yikes, thanks for the warning...anymore information you could give me about this would be fantastic...i just figured it was the baby balling up and making me uncomfortable or that i popped a rib out. i never heard of rib pain being associated with pre-e my doc never told me to watch for it! scary...okay...calling the doc!
Let us know how you are doing! I am worried about you!
waiting for a call back from the on call nurse..ill update when i know!
Matthew is sure giving you problems already, isn't he, LOL You should definitely call your doc as spade suggested just to be on the safe side. My little man loved to be up in my ribs and cause terrible pain, but with your history, it's best to get checked out. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing.
I'm glad you're seeking medical attention. I've had pain similar but if you've had some symptoms of complications then I'm definitely glad that you are seeking help. PLEASE keep us posted.
now i'm a little worried as you haven't been back on since you were waiting on the call back, lets hope you are in having that little bubba of yours.
Hoping all is well since we haven't heard back from you. Please update as soon as possible!!!
Please update us when you can. My response was intended to scare you because the pain "could" originate from pre-eclampsia so it is vital you were checked out as the risks for not doing so are extreme.
Ladies, if she truly had full-blown pre-eclampsia she will likely have needed an emergency delivery. I hope that wasnt the case.
I had no idea those pains could be cuased by Pre-E. I hope your post did convince her to get checked. I've never experienced Pre-E thank God but it's nice to know the symptoms just in case!!!!
I've had the same problems. Pain in my back under my shoulder blade and pain under my right rib cage. My doctor said the problems are normal. She said the pain in my stomach is from my stomach muscles being stretched and the pain in my back is from all the weight I am carrying in front. She said these complaints are typical. My blood pressure and everything else has been normal.
Oh my goodness...I get out of the loop for a few days and everything goes crazy; I can't keep up!! Girl I am praying every single second for you...I'll be on pins and needles waiting to hear if everything turned out okay. YOUR pregnancy is going to give ME gray hairs (okay, I'll fess up.....MORE gray hairs). I hadn't read this when I responded to your message so please don't think I was ignoring your problems to babble about my own, lol....I really hope everything is okay for you guys thank God you made it to full-term either way.
really really really hope you update soon from home with baby still in belly and nothing but sore ribs from being kicked <3.
Ok, first off,,,sorry i freaked everyone out by waiting to update!! When i spoke to the nurse she wanted me to come right in of course because Spade was right...it can be a complication of preeclampsia! So, we went right in and they tested my blood pressure first and it was a little high but not too bad like it was (the bed rest must have helped some for that) and they did find some protein in my urine..but not much so they decided to do a blood test to see how my liver was functioning because they were worried about the rib pain....Luckily all my blood tests came back perfectly normal and the babies NST strip passed with flying colors! Im going back to the doctors today with my 24 hour urine jug and theyre gonna do another NST (twice a week actually) and keep a really close eye on my blood pressure (also twice a week) just in case but so far it looks like a very mild manageable case of preeclampsia.
But i have to say a big THANK YOU to spade22 because the doctors said even though they didnt find any huge issues it was definitely good that i came to get checked out...because it could have meant life or death for us!
I hope that someone will just talk to me about an induction today at my appointment so i can just stop worrying every 2 seconds if the preeclampsia is progressing or not because its seriously freaking me out! i mean i know its best to go natural but i just dont want to deal with this anymore! i want my baby safe on the outside where i can hug and kiss him!
and last but not least, ALL of you ladies are Fantastic...thank you for caring so much!
I'm so glad to hear that everything is okay and you and Matthew are doing well. (((hugs)))
WHEW!!! So glad to hear all is ok. I never had a clue that kind of pain could be a sign/symptom of Pre-E, so I guess some of us learned something new too!!! Fingers crossed on the induction date. :)
Glad to hear everything is okay.
Your very welcome and Im really glad everything is ok. It always pays to be safe.
Let us know what the doctor says. I wouldnt be surprised if they decide to induce soon based on everything that is going on (pre-eclampisa is nothing to mess around with).
Yes, upper quadrant pain can be a symptom of Pre-E or pregnancy-induced hypertension. A lot of times this pain will be on the right side but not always.
Well, i went to the doctors and everything looked pretty dang good today as far as blood pressure and blood tests showed. But of course if its not one thing with me its another...during my NST today babies heart rate was really really high and then dropping super low. we thought he was just hyper at first because he was moving around a lot but he still didnt calm down an hour later it was still sitting between 180-185 and then would drop down to 120 and then way back up again (it scared the crud out of me) so they decided to rush me into ultrasound to check my fluid levels. Turns out that i do have less amniotic fluid then i did during my last ultrasound but its still well within the normal range (they said i still have a couple good pockets around him) so that was good! But she didnt talk about an induction as of yet because things are staying in the "safe zone" but that im too much on the border line of preeclampsia to let me off of bed rest...so im still chained to the bed as of yet...but she did say i could lay on the couch if i wanted to LOL yay *rolls eyes* ...she wont even let me go to the dang grocery store!!
Im just so frusterated because theyre all happy i made it to full term and are saying he can come when he wants now but i dont see how thats ever gonna happen if they make me stay in bed!! its so annoying to because i feel pretty normal...i know its important for mine and babies health but im just SO tired of this!
