Birth Story of Faith Elizabeth

Sorry its taken me so long to update you ladies, but as most of you know the first week you have your new LO home its crazyness, especially with a 2 year old on top of it all lol.

If some of you remember I'd been posting about mucus plug/ bloody show for a few days wondering if thats what was happening to me, well it definitely was! lol I'd lost the rest of my mucus plug at about 9 am and then had my bloody show around 11 am. I was having contractions throughout that day that were about 9 minutes apart. I went to bed early that night around 9, very uncomfortable and tired. I woke up at midnight from the contractions making me unable to sleep. The contractions were all in my back, i would of thought it was a throbbing back ache if i hadnt been able to feel the tightening in my belly, they didnt hurt in the front at all like i thought they would. DH got up with me and we started timing them, they were 6-7 minutes apart so i didnt think it was enough to go in yet so we both decided to wait up and see if they progressed or went away in fear of it being false labor. In the meantime DS who is 2 decided night of all nights to get up and not be able to sleep at 2 am. By that time the contractions were getting bad enough to where i couldnt walk through them but could still sort of talk through them, i timed them again and they were 5-6 minutes apart. I decided it was time to make sure we had everything we needed in the hospital bag lol.

By 3:30 am they were bad enough i was unable to walk or talk through them, it was the worst pain in my back i'd ever felt in my life. we got to the hospital at 4 am and they hooked me up and decided to monitor me since i was only 2-3 cm dilated which is what i'd been for a week. I dozed between contractions for a couple hours and they checked me again at 6 am and i was 4 cm and they decided to call my OB and see what she said. She told them to go ahead and fully admit me. The nurse told me to get up and walk around for half an hour so DH and I walked around L&D for a little bit and went back to my room and then they came and checked me again at about 7-8 and i was 5 cm dilated. They decided to start getting everything ready since i was dilating so fast. By 9 i was 6-7 and they called my doc to come in and they asked me if i wanted an epidural. My entire pregnancy i'd wanted to go without one...but come to find out the thing called back labor is one of the most excruciating back pains i've ever felt..and those plans went out the window and i jumped on the offer LOL. I was so exhausted from no sleep from the night before and dozing between contractions, which were now 3 minutes apart, wasnt doing me much good.

IT was 10 by the time my OB showed up and she checked me and i was 8 cm and then they all started running around getting everything ready, and I got my epidural, oh goodness the relief i felt was so immense i can't even describe, they got it in two tries and managed to do it en between contractions. At 11 my Ob checked me and i was 9-10 cm so she rushed out to get her scrub things on and the nurse stayed and told me to tell her when i felt the need to push. at 11:15 i just had this overwhelming pressure and i told the nurse i needed to push. At this point im thinking about DH and wondering how he's going to do, with DS(my step son) his mother had a c section and DH gets squeamish easily at the site of blood(you should of seen him when they gave me my IV and it started to drip some and some of it pooled on the floor LOL). So when the nurse told him to hold on of my legs and i realized he'd be able to see EVERYTHING i wondered how he'd do and if he'd be ok. ( leave it to me to be worried about someone else when in labor LOL) The nurse called the doc and told her it i needed to start pushing and she said she was on her way but to go ahead and have me start with the nurse there. I started to push and everytime i did DD's heart rate would dip majorly, below 100 and down to 40 one time. It made me scared to push. My doc showed up and kept me pushing, and DD's heart rate would do the same thing. I was so exhausted that i couldnt keep my eyes open between pushes. About 2 minutes before she was born I'd pushed and then i couldnt hear hear heartbeat, the MOST scariest moment in my life, i was so scared for DD and at that point i had a rush of adrenalin knowing that she'd be better off coming out and them being able to help her. in that push her head came out and they suctioned her mouth and told me to push again, then the rest of her was here. I anxiously waited to hear that sound that every mother waits to hear, they laid her on my chest and i heard the most fantastic sound in my life, DD screaming her head off. I burst into tears immediately. She was all slimy and bloody and absolutely perfect. I bawled like a little baby and they took her to clean and weigh her. It was one of the most beautiful and scariest moments in my life and i wouldnt change it for the world. December 31st at 11:47 am 6lb 3oz 18 in long, Faith Elizabeth was finally here at 38 weeks 5 days gestation. She just couldnt wait until january, it was the best new years present i could ever ask for.

I had a easy recovery, i got yelled at by the nurse for when they helped me out of bed after the epidural had worn off i almost jumped out of bed expecting to have a big belly again and all the extra weight LOL.

She's now just a little over a week old and doing wonderfully, DS loves her to bits and wants to hold her all the time. I've had some issues getting her to latch correctly and my supply in one breast isnt good. they have me supplementing her because her weight wasnt catching back up to birth weight at a good rate. She only gets formula at 2 feedings a day the rest of the time she is breastfed. which is a interesting sight while trying to keep DS out of things lol.

I just wanted to thank you ladies for all the support and putting up with my sometimes quite obvious questions, i'm so happy i found the site so early on in my pregnancy so I had somewhere to go for the multitude of questions i had with no one to ask. You've all been amazing! I'll definitely be sticking out the forum to try and answer any questions i can and will definitely be on the newborn forum since i found i have even more questions now she is here then i did when i was pregnant with her LOL.
