I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and I do plan on breastfeeding but my mom was telling me that the only form of birth control you can us while breastfeeding is condoms. does anyone know if this is true?

I forgot to mention I had the mirena inserted at 8 weeks and breastfed until my son was 11a months just fine. It didn't affect my milk at all

I had the mirena right after my son. I think you have to wait 8 weeks. Mirena is great.  You don't have to worry about taking a pill and its very effective

I was put on the Mini-Pill after my son was born, and it was fantastic. I had no side effects from it and it kept me from getting pregnant until we were ready, so it worked for a year..I loved it and plan to go back on it after my next son is born in April, or do the Paragard IUD.

You DEFINITELY have to take it at the same time every day...if you take it more than 2-3 hours late, you are NOT PROTECTED. that's how picky it is, so it's nothing to play around with!

There are two different things you can use. The Paragard IUD (which is hormone free) and the Progesterone only pill (POP or 'mini pill') If you use this it has to be taken EXACTLY as directed. There is no room to take it incorrectly, and is far less forgiving than the combination birth control pills. So if you can not take it at the same time every single day, you should consider something else. (you will also have to use condoms the first month you begin taking this) I understand being in the heat of the moment, but it only takes a second to put a condom on, and is even more helpful if you have it close to you before hand.

The only thing with that type of birth control is that my doctor said instead of being 99% effective it was 94% effective... But it worked for me

This is not true. When I had my daughter and was breast-feeding the doctor prescribed me a form of birth control that was meant for breast-feeding women. I think it had less progesterone in it or something like that. Ask your doctor
