with my last baby I had an ultrasound at 37 weeks aI was to myDD was almost 10lbs!! I had her 2 days later and she was only 7 lbs 6 ozs. Mine was wayyyyy off. Actualy I should have known tat y daughter couldnt have been that big because my other 3 babies had only been between 7-7.5 lbs. Do you have other children?? If so how big were they??

My doctor has been more accurate estimating my babies' weights by feeling my stomach than with ultrasound. I asked him how big he thought my last one was at my 35 week check up, he said about 5 1/2 lbs, I delivered him 3 days later and he was 5lbs 12oz. My friend was induced because of her baby's size, they thought she was about 8 1/2-lbs, she was over 10lbs. It all depends. Nothing is 100% accurate.

I wouldn't worry yet. There's a lady on here who's daughter was measured a few times by different techs in a 10 minute time span and all were off. At this point in pregnancy ultrasound is highly inaccurate at gauging weight. There are hundreds of women who have been talked into c-section because they would have 10+ pound babies and when baby is born it was 7 pounds. Fluid, position and all kinds of other factors play into babies weight. Just keep positive, and know that you CAN do it. Our bodies were made to birth babies of these sizes, just many women let others make them feel that they can't.

I bet the sonogram is off - feeling baby with hands and guessing that way is more accurate. Imaging an adult curled up in a ball in a swimming pool, completely submerged under water and trying to measure them to get their weight - it just isn't very accurate.

Has your doctor felt baby to guess weight?

hes actually not pressing either. hes all for me wanting to have a vaginal birth. he just wants to keep an eye on the placenta, amneotic fluids. and he said something about with very large babies they sometimes can use up their blood supply or something along those lines, hes been really supportive. as long as no red flags come up he wants to get me as close to the due date as he can. im just nervous that it wont fit. 10+lbs is a great deal more than my daughters 8lbs 10oz

You cannot accurately estimate a baby's weight this late in the game. They can be off by as many as 2-4 lbs. I don't really understand why baby's weight concerns your doctor either - women can adequately have large babies if they squat or get on their hands-and-knees. In fact I know that my neighbor just had her baby boy today and he weighed well over 10-lbs.

Honestly I wouldn't give it another thought. Sometimes doctors use this as a scare tactic to get women to have a cesarean or induction.

from what i know it is not uncommon to have the estimated weight be wrong. I am sure ladies on here will tell you they were estimated at 10lbs and ended up being only 7 or 8lbs. So dont get scared, it will be ok.
