(+)Blood test but (-)urine tests

I went to the doc at my university yesterday to have a blood test to check for hyperthyroidism.  My husband and i have been trying to conceive for 11 months.  He called me back and told me i'm pregnant.  I don't believe him because i have no symptoms thus far and i can't get a solid positive on an HPT.  I got a few faint lines and then the line went away completely on the last test.  Has anyone ever experienced this?  I fear i am having a chemical pregnancy, as i miscarried last august so i'm being very cautious.  Any thoughts?

It may be early...is it time for you to miss you cycle?  Blood test is much better than a hpt.  I had one pregnancy where I had a very faint line...but as they say a line is a line..try not to stress and wait and see when you miss your cycle.  Don't worry and try to remain clam...trust me I know it is hard..but at least try.  Congrats!

I actually got my period tuesday night.  It was a chemical pregnancy.  :(  Back to the drawing board!

Keep your head up.  Blood test are 10x better than hpts.  The levels in your body may not be high enough to read on an hpt.  Especially if you are using certain brands of hpt.

I know a few people who have had a positive blood test and negative urine. It does happen. I wish you the best of luck!

Grandmatobe, i only had qualitative tests done so far.  I made an appt to have a quantitative test to check the actual levels but its not till the 23rd that i can get in to see my doc.  Argh.  Until then i'm gonna have to wait.

What were the blood levels?  If they were higher than 5-10, you would be considered pregnant, but the pregnancy tests don't pick up until it hits around 25.  So if you were between 5-25, the blood test would show the pregnancy, but the urine tests would not.  It would be helpful if you could get both of the levels from your blood tests and that would give you better information.

Well i went and had another blood test done today and it was once again positive.  I did a urine test earlier and its still negative.  I don't know how i can have enough hcg to get 2 positive blood tests but not enough to register a positive on a urine test!  I still have no symptoms other than some light cramping.  But i am taking a medication for something else that might be causing that.  I guess i can only wait and see.  I scheduled an appt for a quantitative test at the clinic where my doctor from last yr is and they can't see me till the 23rd!  14 days of wondering?!  Really?!  Ugh.

Good luck hun, hopefully your body is just slow at producing HCG and everything is fine :)

Well i took 5 HPT's total over friday-sun and the once faint line completely disappeared.  :(  All BFN's now.  I think the pregnancy has already failed and my hcg levels must have dropped and that is why i no longer get a faint line.  I have a blood test for pregnancy at 2:30 today.  I'm curious if it will be negative now.  I expect it to be but i just want confirmation so i can put this past me.  Chemical pregnancies are a cruel joke.  :(

I agree with Gina. It does not matter how faint the line, positive is positive, pregnant you are. Congrats!

The blood test is much more accurate.  If it is positive, then you are pregnant.  With the HPTs, if you get even a faint positive line, you should read that as a positive.  I would say you are pregnant and should start prenatal care.
