Braxton Hicks or something else

So I have no idea what these are. Anytime I hear about contractions my mind flips to something painful. But I heard that Braxton hicks contractions are painless and just get really tight. Or something. So I was wondering what exactly they do feel like and where you feel them. I only ask because sometimes my stomach will tighten up really tight like a rock but the rest will be soft, and I have no idea what it is. It doesn't last long and then it's gone. Are they lower in your stomach or can they be higher up, like around your belly button.

You are definetly correct in what you are feeling...braxton hicks contractions and they are just the uterus practicing for labor. You normally feel them in your belly/stomach,etc. right down to your pubic area and it is a strong squeezing tightening feeling. No concern unless they are consistantly regular and painful. With my last three pregnancies i have had braxton hicks as early as 13 weeks of course no one believed me but only you know what your body feels, they even tried to say it was a uti or bladder infection and to the md avail it was not. Good luck and no worries...

Its okay honestly, people have their own opinions, I dont agree with it either, but it was for the best, but 'Never be Sad When Something Is Gone, Just Be Glad It Was Once Yours' I don't base my life on it, whats done is done, but ther is not a day where I do not regret it. But i believe it was for the best.

And my sister in law said its eiter braxton Hicks or the umbilical cord being played with, but if you are worried see someone, and they can help you, you can rub like massage your stomach where it hurts I know that helps alot.

I hope all goes well and wish you luck. :)

I think it is round ligament. They're always on one side when they come. Never both together. It's just annoying. xP

@Cassandrajane- I don't agree with abortion, but it's none of my business as well. We each have our own opinions of what is right for each of us. In the end, only you will live with the choices you make. You did what you thought was right. It's no one elses place to agree or disagree.

It is possible that you could have some pain associated with BH.  I'm on my 8th pregnancy (6th to make it out of the first trimester) so my BH do tend to get raelly uncomfortable.  It can also be ligament pain.  When you have a BH it could be irritating the ligaments or it could just simply be normal ligament pains...those tend to be on one side or the other.

it could be the baby pulling on your cord is it just on one side?
and the baby might stop when you move, but DONT WORRY, the DO NOT pull on it hard enough to stop the oxygen flow! :)

I hope this also helps, I am also sorry if you disagree with my choice also.
I wish you luck with your pregnancy, and I think if you get too worried or it gets worse you should see your GP if you are able or the ER unit if the GP is unavailable (In the night)

Hope this helps, i can also ask my sister in law who is nearly due as to what else this could be!

Good luck, I wish you the best :)

Is it possible that some of them could cause pain, or could the pain I get just be round ligament. The tightening I get isn't very often. I think I've had it twice. The cramping like pain also isn't often, and it seems to go away when I move around.

Sounds like what you described are classic braxton hicks.

I was seriously ill, on ALOT of medication that would of harmed my baby, I had anorexia through all of the pregancy, I was living in a refuge on the run from domestic violence with my mum brother and sister, when we got my house I was sleeping on the floor as i didnt have a bed, only to be put back into the refuge, I had no money, the father wasnt interested but we are backtogether now, just some family problems and me moving around was stressful. and I was also suicidal due to all this stress and as i didnt know, i dyed my hair at least 12 times and out peroxide in my hair which damages the baby, and If i had it I wasnt in the right frame of mind to look after it so I would have been no use but i wouldnt be able to put it up for adoption after holding it. I done best by the baby, I would rather it brought up when I was stable and everything that it to be a baby that wasnt well, and social services were involoved. I believe i done the right thing at the time! I do regret it yes.
but i wasnt able to have a child, and get my life sorted at the same time!

I done what was best

Out of complete curiosity, why would you have a third trimester termination?

well when I had my third trimester termination (I know it sounds bad but it was really for the best) anyways I was induced and put basically into labour then put to sleep, I had concractions for 6 hours, basically to me it felt like really bad period pain that came and went and closer to my 6 hours the pain got closer together and a hot bean bag thing you put in the microwave helps, lay on one side crunched up and put the bag over the side you're not lying on, so it goes over onto your back and onto your stomach type thing, This helped me alot..

I think you're having your Braxton Hicks :)

getting readyy for your concractions :)

Good luck I hope this kinda helped its not the same situation but its pretty close.

Please dont judge me on my termination btw, i really did do it for the best of my baby not for me!
