Most docs don't wait 2 weeks to induce. They will either induce on your due date or a few days afterwards. I know books say they get the baby out before 42 weeks, but with my experience and with others, they'll do it as soon as possible once you reach your due date.
Well, I have 5 kids. With my first, I had hime 2 days before my due date (on my own). With the next 2, I had them before my due date on my own also. With my 4th, he induced me at my request 2 days before my due date because I wanted to make sure he was the doctor there for the delivery. With this last one, she was due on 6-19-07. We had scheduled an induction on 6-14, but she came on her own on 6-13. My doctor won't make me go over my due date. I would maybe speak with your doctor about your concerns as all doctors are different with this. Hopefully your doctor will listen to what YOU want as long as both you and baby are healthy.
I think it depends on your doctor and your relationship. I was induced for my first (only 6 days before due date). I have since moved and my new doctor stated he would have never induced me on my first pregnancy unless my health depended on it. BUT, he's willing to induce me this go around too. Mainly because I've been through child birth already and my husband also travels with his job.
I could be wrong, but I think that your body has to start dialating before most or all doctors will even consider this as an option. I was lucky and was 2 centimeters dialated the entire last month.
i was 38 weeks when i was induced and i requested it b/c my husband was leaving the country but yea it can be done
