Confused about HCG levels

Hello All,

I have a question ? I had two blood test to check my HCG levels. At six weeks my levels were 64,000. The following week the Dr. had me take another test and my levels were 55,512. Should I be concerned ? The Dr. said that I will miscarry. I have not had any cramping or spotting. I have just been fatigue and nausea with frequent urination. The did a vaginal ultrasound at 6.5 weeks and was only able to see the sac no fetal heart beat. Could someone please help me understand.

Yes I changed OB and hopefully they will do another ultrasound. I go on 11/24/08. We will see. I have had a misscarriage before and it just not the same. But I know each pregnancy is different. I guess I will have to continue to wait. Its just frustrating and upseting knowing that may not be having this baby.

I miscarried abot a year and a half ago at 6w3d but didn't find out until 9 weeks when during a routine ultrasound we found out the baby had stopped developing. Its classified as a missed miscarriage. I would speak to your doctor about getting another ultrasound to see if there is any development. If not you might want to talk about your options since if you body won't do it naturally it can cause an infection. Also, pregnancy symptoms wont go away until your levels return to 0 which they wont until you actually get rid of the baby. I had a D&C and still had pregnancy symptoms up to 3 weeks later. It took 4 weeks after for my levels to return to 0.

Oh I see... well it sounds like it might be promising! Are you going to request another ultrasound?

This was 2 weeks ago when this all happened. I am now 8.5 weeks and still no signs of cramping or spotting. I am still getting sick and my breast hurt more now than they did when I first found out. I have another appointment with a new OB on Tuesday to check to see if anything has changed. Do you guys this I have a chance?

I agree with the other ladies. Don't get a D&C or take the pill to help you miscarry just yet. Give yourself some time and see if your body will do what it will naturally. It is very possible for levels to fluctuate (at least in many experiences I've read in other people).

But I have to say that 1). those levels seem high for only 6.5 weeks (molar pregnancy) and 2). the levels are decreasing.

I just miscarried yesterday, sweetie, and I truly hope that you aren't going to. Your levels are still high enough that it might take a couple of weeks to start cramping and bleeding if you are going to miscarry.

Doesn't sound good. By now you should be seeing a fetal pole as well. Its possible for it to not show up until later but that mixed with the dropping levels seems to indicate a miscarriage. I'm so sorry. :(

Your levels are supposed to double every 48-72hrs... not decrease. Decreasing is a clear indicator of miscarriage. I'm sorry for your loss.
