Curious

I tried to get some answers on the BC forum but apparently no one cares in there so I'm going to post my question here.

I recently had my son in July 09 and I started the Depo shot at the end of August. I hadn't had a period since my son was born until Sept. 17th 09. I've been spotting on and off, sometimes heavy and sometimes nothing since then and I was wondering what you ladies thought I should do. I called my Dr. and her nurse said that it's because I just had a baby and I'm now introducing my body to hormones so it's freaking out by bleeding. She says it should stop by the next shot which is due in Nov. but I'm still really wondering if I should just get on something else. Anyone have any sugguestions? I really don't want to be bleeding for the next 3 months! Ugh!! Thanks! =)

I took the Depo shot when I was in high school. It made me bleed all the time dark brown reddish blood. It lasted about a year on and off. (Mostly on) I eventually quit taking it because it was getting to be more of a headache! I hope you find the answers you are looking for!

I also bled off and on the first few months on the depo shot so I think that is normal.   Personally though it is not a BC that I would recommend to anyone. I know everyone reacts differently to BC, but I had regular periods before being on depo, after coming off of it took almost a year and a half before they were even close to regular.  I also gained 50 lbs on it, without changing eating habits.  I swear, I came off of it, and lost over 30 pounds in 1 1/2 months, with no actual diet or exercise.  I also had to go on lexapro because depo has been known to cause anxiety and depression if you're on it for too long.  I do want to clarify that I was on the shot for almost 5 years, so this wasn't a short term BC.

My BF is on it and she never has a period at all so i'm positive that the bleeding will stop. Its just a matter of if you want to wait.

Thank you so much! I've been on it before but a few years ago before I had any kids and it worked GREAT! I loved it because I had NO period and I didn't have to worry about taking the pill. =) I think I'll give it a chance and wait to get my next shot and see how it goes. I really am done having children and this seems like a good form for me.

Thank you for the congrats!! I'm very happy with my little man and since we already have a little girl we (think) are done. We'll see.

Your body does take time to regulate to the depo shot. I bled for a few weeks after I got mine and then I had no other bleeding. Give it a little more time. It is a great form of birth control if you do not plan on anymore children in the near future.

When my sister started the depo shot (I never took it) the doctor told her she would bleed on and off for the first few months. She bled until her next shot. When she went it she was told that it would stop soon. She got the shot and then bled for another two months! It was the last shot she had. :) I don't think it really has anything to do with having a baby in July (congrats by the way :)). Bleeding is very common with depo.
