Fake Nails/Manicure - problem during labor?

During labor, if I had fake nails on or polish would they have to remove them from one finger to look at my nail color???  Just wondering because I was considering getting a manicure or possibly acrylic nails today because this new salon is offering 50% off their services.  My mom is the one that mentioned that possibility to me, so that's why I ask if anyone had problems with either one of those (I'm 37 weeks and may be induced next week, so that's why I wonder too). Thanks!

I used to work in the recovery room and use the pulse ox probes all the time.  We never had a problem with manicures, as long as they weren't really dark reds or purples.  When I had back surgery last year, I had a pedicure done the day before, but I left my fingers clean, just in case.  The nurses thought I was so funny in the recovery room, because I had the nurses and my surgeon look at my cute pedicure!  I personally never used nail polish remover because of the color, I would just place the probe on a toe or on the earlobe instead.

YEA ..I AGREE WITH EVERYONE . I MADE SURE I HAD A PEDICURE AND MANICURE BEFORE I WENT INTO LABOR. I WOULD SUGGEST GETTING A MANICURE AND KEEPING THEM PRETTY SHORT, ESSP. WITH BEING A NEW MOM...BABIES ARE SOO DELICATE!

Keep the nails short, otherwise have fun! Do your toes while you're at it, too. Nurses love a woman in labor with bright and funky toe polish!!!

I got mine done 4 days before I went into labour. I knew that knowing my luck I wouldn't be able to get in and get them done for quite some time, so I took advantage while I could. They didn't have me take the nails off, or remove the polish. Don't see why they would. But if you get fake nails, make sure you don't get them too long, cause sometimes they will put that clamp like thing on your finger, I think it checks your pulse, and if your nails are too long, they may want to cute one nail shorter.
Other than that, go have a fun pretty day! :)

I don't believe there is any problem with getting your nails done prior to giving birth. I was going to do it before I gave birth because I can't stand when people have chipped nails and half painted toes like they show on "deliver me" but then my water broke unexpectedly 2 weeks before my due date.

My friend got hers done a couple days before she gave birth and they didn't make her take them off or anything.

No I don't believe so. A lot of women get them done prior to going into labor to feel good about themselves.

I would just suggest make sure they aren't too long so that you feel comfortable not scratching your new little bundle.

Congrats on your impending delivery!
