Fatal hiccups

how often does your baby has hiccups in one day? Im 28 weeks and felt my baby having hiccups several times a day like 7 to 10 times a day and each time she has hiccup it lasts for 10 minutes in average. Is it normal?

I love spicy food and eat it all the time and have yet to have hiccups at all...or not that I've felt and I'm 34 weeks....not enough studies have been done on fetal hiccups so saying it's caused by certain foods isn't actually correct I have yet to find something that says that's why it is. It probably just depends on the intake of fluid the fetus swallows.... Because it gets sucked it is believed that it gets sucked into the lungs and triggers the hiccup function.
Have a friend who's a healthnut and her baby had hiccups all the time and still does ( he's 8 months old now). So don't believe it's because of food you are eating. Plus its perfectly normal there isn't anything wrong with your baby and damage isn't being done by it having hiccups.

Aww that is very informative. I'll just try to keep myself away from spicy and unhealthy food. I never felt hiccups when I was down with nausea. Just got my nausea tamed and ate all what I crave for, that probably would have been the reason. I felt it's very strange for my lil girl to have so many hiccups a day now at 28 weeks.

Hiccups come from to much acid foods you happen to be eating like lemon spicy foods salty foods as well like hot dogs mustard chips lemonade and all that good a stuff you like to eat, try to cut off on foods that have acid and salt try to eat healthy like steamed vegetables.it real helps my whole pregnancy my baby boy probably had the minimum amount of hiccups  only because my last 2 months I would crave Chile with fruits and fries lemonade and soda. Once I started to avoid those maybe he had hiccups for abo it once or twice a day for 10 minutes total .. I never craved anything so he never had hiccups at the beginning of my pregnancy till the end. But because I ate those foods I also got acid reflux especially when he would kick me it got nasty and uncomfortable

Thanks. I needed to hear that. Feeling better now.  True that Internet just confuses us over simple matters that bothers us a lot later on.

I'm 32 weeks and asked my midwife if it was normal for my little one to hiccup at least that many times a day and she said its perfectly normal. I would suggest staying off the internet. You get yourself freaked out over nothing. I thought she was hiccupping way too much but she said its nothing to worry about :)

Thank you hun. But did you feel at 27 or 28 weeks? And in average every two hours she gets hiccup. I called my doctor and he said he can't stop baby getting hiccups  but It bothers me a lot. I read somewhere about cord compression and all so I badly need someone saying its normal and baby is safe. Can't wait until his next appointment which is in two weeks times. Feel like crying every time she gets hiccup.

Yeah. That's normal. My little lady would hiccup constantly it would actually bug me!! Now, at 37 weeks 5 days she hiccups about 5 times a day, lasting 5 minutes tops.. If you don't feel its normal, you can always call and ask the doctor. Even if you feel its a stupid question its good to be on the safe side:) good luck
