Flu-Like Symptoms in Pregnancy

I am 23 and 19w4d with my first pregnancy. Last night, about 2 hours after eating dinner, I started to feel very nauseated. This continued through the night, along with flu-type aches. I also kept waking up because I was too hot or too cold, although the temp in the room was cool and I usually sleep through the night with no problems.

I've continued to feel exhausted, achy and generally ill today, but my appetite is normal, and I do not have swollen lymph nodes, fever, vomiting or diarrhea. I went to my GP today, but he didn't seem concerned, and all he ordered was a urine test, which came back normal.

If I weren't pregnant, I wouldn't be concerned about this at all, as the symptoms are relatively mild. But I keep reading about illnesses that present in pregnant women as "mild flu" (eg, listeria, toxoplasmosis, etc.), and then with all these stories in the news about different types of food poisoning...I can't help wondering if the dr. should have tested for more.

Food poisoning can show up days after you actually consumed the food. So I wouldn't relate your feelings to your dinner.

It is possible to get the flu during the summer. If you still feel sick after a couple of days (or worse) then contact your doctor again for further testing. He probably didn't ask for more testing because it is incredibly expensive and if it turns out to be a flu you'll have spent a lot of money.

Just keep watching your symptoms and try not to envision every bad thing happening! I had the flu while I was pregnant and I was hysterical. You'll get better faster if you just rest and drink your fluids!
