For those who are having/had girls, how sure did the doctor seem that the baby WAS a GIRL?

At 18 weeks the doctor was not for sure if the baby was a boy or girl.  At our 22 week apt. he did another u/s to see if he could get a better idea and told us his best bet is a girl as he did not see anything "protruding out".  However he was not postitive and told us we might want to hold off on painting anthing pink and to keep tags on things we buy just in case.  Well now, if there is nothing "protruding out" to me that says girl.  Our next u/s will be at thirty weeks, 2 weeks before our baby shower.  I don't want to register for all green and yellow things--that's why we wanted to find out the sex.  I know I can always return things but am curious, for those of you having/have had girls, was there some uncertainty from your doctor or did they seem pretty sure nothing was "hiding"?

*I also posted this on the March 08 forum, but thought I may get more responses here.

I was told by the tech that it is "definitly a girl" - because my husband questioned it.  I have felt this whole time that I am having a girl.  My u/s pics showed the 3 lines, which symbolizes the girl parts.  The tech also said there are no boy parts anywhere.  Part of why I got unsure, was because I thought I saw something flapping around during the u/s but I am pretty sure now that it was the umbelical cord.  When we went back to see the OBGYN 2 weeks later, he looked over the u/s and said he agrees it is a girl - they also documented it in my chart - and he told us to start thinking of names.  I go back at around 30 weeks also, which will be like the week before my baby shower, so hopefully it will still be a girl!

Our tech told us Tuesday that she was 95% sure we were having a girl. The pic she gave us us really funny. I posted it on another topic. We are going today to do a gender check. If for some reason they can't ID the baby then we go back at a later time for no extra charge! I'm excited to see my baby again!!

Thanks for all your input!  We had trouble getting the baby to stay still and open up to really see a lot---The pictures are very blury because of the movement.  We have a 3D u/s at 30 weeks (7 weeks away)  so hopefully she will still be a gril then.

my sister in law, was surethat it was a girl until 3 days before her delivery day...doctors do make mistakes...we had already 6 or 7 u/s ,,we are 100% positive that its a girl! even in the 3D that we did , it showed the parts pefectly!

good luck

OK, so I have 2 boys and a girl......it was very clear for my boys, and it was also very clear for my girl...To identify a girl from a boy, its not the lacking of parts they see, its the three lines.  They call it the "hamburger sign" because that is what it looks like...a little hamburger.  If I were you I would look into going to a place that does the 3D ultrasounds....you are prob to early for the 3D one...but most do anatomy scans with the normal ultrasound appearance after 17 weeks..,The tech at my Dr office said he thought girl, but I wanted to be sure, so I went and had the anatomy scan done.  I would def look into this if you NEED to know, because boys can be tricky and just because you didn't see a little whoo-hoo dilly doesn't mean its not there...look for the lines, lol.

I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks where the tech said she said she was 90% positive it was a girl. In the ultrasound picture you can very clearly see 3 lines which mark the girl parts.

I would not trust his answer because not seeing "anything protruding" is not the same as seeing girl parts. If you have the sonogram pic or remember, did it have three lines? When you get a shot of girl genitilia there will be three parallel lines.

My nephew "hid" at his ultrasound and was born a BOY much to my brother's surprise. But this was over a decade ago and sonogram technology is a lot more advanced.

I had two girls and I ended up getting the 3D ultrasounds around 26-28 weeks "just to make sure".

My doctor is 100% positive that the baby I am carrying now is a girl. Apparently in the 20 week scan he could identify her clitoris. (not just the 'lack' of male parts)

I've had a boy and a girl previously, and doctors correctly diagnosed the sex each time.

If the doctor couldn't get a clear shot, or if the chord happened to be near, sometimes they will go witout a definate answer since if it was a boy it could be hidden!  But  I'd go ahead and register for a girl, but let everyone know you will need a gift receipt just incase it turns out to be a boy, and leave all the tags on everything!  That's what I would do!

Of course, I do know a few people who were told they were having a girl, and turned out to be a boy for each of them!

I wish i could be of more help LOL my daughter is now 10 and that was SOOOOO long ago..... BUT the dr did tell me that he would bet it was girl if he had to..... and He acutally was right..... and if he is thinking its a girl it probably is, i know there is room for error tho BUT it is easier to spot a boy... I am now preggo (23 weeks) with a boy and they were able to see his parts just poking out there right away...... so i would think if he doesnt see anything poking out that there is a pretty good change its a girl.....
