HELP! MY FIRST ULTRA SOUND, NOT HEART BEAT!

I was So excited to go get my first ultra sound today.  But now I don't know what to think.  The lady did a vaginal ultra sound on me an there was just a black circle.  There was no heart beat!  I thought that I was 11 weeks because my last FULL cycle was June 7th.  I had spotting for 2 days on July 5th an 6th.  I just thought it was implantation bleeding.  Even if I was a month off on my dates.... I should be 5 or 6 weeks.  Shouldn't I had heard the heart beat or saw some thing inside the circle?  It was just a black dot.  They would not give me the ultra sound pics an the nurse an staff acted very strange.  They set me up 2 visits for next week at the hospital.  They would not tell me any thing.  I have to get more blood word an another ultra sound done Tuesday.  I think they want me to go there for a DNC but I'm not sure.  When she hit a button on the machine it lit up around it... but not on or near it.  What dose that mean?  I feel fine.  No spotting or pain.  Has this ever happened to any one on here?  Please help I'm almost in tear worring about this.

My opinion is....Its been waaay too long since your last period for you to be only 5-6 weeks.  If you are over 6 weeks you should be seeing a lot more than a dark spot.  I think that it is normal for a nurse or doctor to want to do more tests to see if it is a viable pregnancy for this same reason so if you had a missed misscarriage meaning that your embryo stopped developing after 5 weeks and you have never miscarriaged then it is normal for them to suggest a d&c.

Not all women get implantatin bleeding, and it various among women, so there is no accurate date i can give you. I guess you can see what happened with other women.


The easier version is to start counting the weeks from your last cylce until now. That would put you at 11 weeks, at least thats how the drs calculate it, even though you wonder why do you count from the last cylce when conception didnt take place 4 weeks ago, so counting from conception it would be like 7 weeks. But i dont think the drs use it that way.  When i had my u/s i was 10w 3 days, that was using my last menstrual cycle, and the u/s showed baby was 10w, so it was, pretty accurate.  Im sorry you are giong threw this, try not to stress your self out, it will only make things worse, sometime we look for answers bcuz we're searching for hope, just keep praying and try to stay stress free until next dr appointment.

thanks every one for your replies.  how long before your expected period do you get implantation bleeding?  I'm trying to figure it out but I don't have a clue.  if i spotted on the 5th an 6th of july... how many weeks would I be?  Any Ideas?

I had a missed m/c in june, i was 10w and 3 days, u/s showed baby was 10w, i was in total shock like what did i do in 3 days to kill my baby. I waited a week and had 2nd u/s and there still was no heartbeat.  How do you feel, sometime with missed m/c you can recognize that symptoms are decreasing.  Im a nurse myself, so that day i woke up, i new something was wrong so i went to er.  If you are 11 weeks, you should be seeing a heartbeat and seeing a developing fetus. Maybe you are not 11 weeks and dates are messed up.  Try not to stress yourself, wait for next appointment.  I beleive its a womans choice to wait it out or have a dnc. But i had my dates correct and i new i could not be 5 or 6 weeks, my dr asked me that to, are you sure. I keep a little book of the dates and times i have sex. I should say i have a little health book about what goes on with my body.  I wish you the best, and im praying when you go back there is a little growing fetus in there that you can see with a heartbeat.

As far as the nursing staff: Any service you receive, you should be asking your dr to explain what your results are before you leave out the office. Everytime i go to dr, i hear what the nurses tell me, but i also tell them to bring in the dr and have her explain it to me. And besides its not the nurses responsibilty to be informing the patient, the dr should inform first, the nurse is there to follow up if you have further questions.  The x-ray techs are not suppose to give you information when doing the u/s. As far as your u/s pics, you can always go back up there and get a copy of them, they probably didnt have time to give you one, and your suppose to actaully fill out a medical release form for any copies you want. so you can still go back up there and get a copy. I actually had the er give me the orignal copies so i could take them to my ob dr, they gave me 30 days to bring them back, when i brought them back i waited while they made me a copy on a cd and it costed me about 4 dollas.  You are in my prayers

Mine had grown to 3mm in 6 days!! Two weeks later at 8 weeks they were 3cm!!! They have periods of super growth and then it slows...I remember when we saw the black circles my partner asked the technician if that's what she would expect to see at 4 weeks and she said yes. I was actually 5 weeks at the time so it must be normal for five weeks.

I had a MC in Feb and I bled and they booked me in for a scan. I was seven weeks and I hoped all weekend and when I went in on the Monday they wouldn't even do the scan because I got a negative pregnancy result :( I was mortified. This time with the twins I stayed numb and I am still anxious now but thinking much more positive. When they grew between the first two US I promised never to give up on them again.

I looked it up, its the amount of haemoglobin packed into an area of red blood cells. Problem MCHC are 37 or more. Low means anaemia. Your blood will be super efficient at carrying Oxygen if you have haemoglobin jam packed in.

i will tell you only what i know. i was thought to be 11 weeks preggo and went in for my first scan and only to find out that baby stopped developing at 6.5 weeks ,it was just a black dot with nothin in it no heartbeat no nothing. i had NO spotting , no cramps no nothing . i thought everything to be fne. well i had a missed ob but my body kept on carrying it almost six weeks after it had passed . so i had to have a d&c. and it broke my heart. i know thats not what you want to hear but im tellin you what had happened to me . i wish you luck and hope that everyhting is ok with you .

The norm for a not pregnant person is 27.0 - 32.00 So you see it's not that high :)

My neutrophils were 8.54 and the norm was 2.00 - 7.50. I'm not sure what MCHC are but neutrophils are related to infection so i was really worried I had an infection (I was 12 weeks at the time) and my OB just found it amusing that I new what they were and had worried about it.

I am 100% that it is nothing bad and completely Unrelated to predicament :) I would hazard a guess that if there was a problem then alot of the components of the blood would be miles out of their range.

All the negs of your urine are normal because if they were postitive it would indicate stuff like diabetes and problems digesting carbs.

I am a science teacher so some of it make sense to me.

I checked all this with my notes from my bloods because they give me normal ranges. They are all perfectly fine except the one I indicated. Now my Nuetrophils were hgiher than normal and when I asked my OB she said the ranges I had were not for pregnant women so not to worry.
So all looks healthy :))

Your urinalysis looks okay to me too but I am NOT a Doctor.

I think its very unprofessional for them to act like that.  Sigh.... any one have any clue what the ER stuff means?  lol .  they told me to goive it to my OB ... I have no clue what any of it means.  I under positive pregnancy an clear na yellow pee lol

HCG counts don't mean anything, they don't do them here in the UK where I am because they are not an accurate determination of a viable pregnancy.

When we saw the black circles, I actually thought I was four weeks but the US the week after dated me at 6, so I think there really is hope.

If they are correct with my dates I ovulated three times in one cycle and must have released two eggs on the second ovulation.

It's not over til the fat lady sings!!! If it doesn't go your way just keep trying xx

The nurses are like that, they said to me 'You're 8 weeks and not growing'. I told them I thought I had ovulated again but they just said 'We'll see what happens next week'.

Last week my sister had her first round of IVF, she was told on the Friday at her egg check that her eggs were not growing because they hadn't doubled and normal they have tripled by the Tuesday. I told her to not listen to them and there was hope until Tuesday. When she went on the following Tuesday she had 10 eggs, 4 were good eggs and out of the 4 embryos made, 2 were spot on and they implanted them last Saturday.

I think they tell you the worst case senario so you don't get your hopes up but I don;t see the point in this. We give people a week of misery they might not need to go through???

I would say that either you are five weeks pregnant or the embryo stopped growing at five weeks. I'm not sure if you would need a D and C though when it is that early. Is there any chance that you had sex three weeks ago?? This may mean you are five weeks pregnant and have just had funny cycles.......

Its possible spotting was inplantation,not all women experience this,to be honest i would put down julys spotting as that,the fact the black whole is there is still promising (this was all i saw couple weeks ago.)im sure in couple weeks,you will see more..doctors dont believe in womens cycles being possibly being  longer than 28 days,so you may be still very early.point is no bleeding no pain,not a cause for concern,i would try to relax (hard i know) im having issues since my scan today.although i saw heartbeat,baby looked fine,but the sac is small,they say not to be worried,yeah right like we dont..try to stay calm..and refuse any dnc for couple weeks at least,i wish you all the best,not sure on the machine part of your question,there machines are different in the uk...
