Hormone levels, blighted ovum, etc.

This is long but I need help.

I took a pregnancy test three weeks ago and it was positive. I took it a week after I missed my expected period. My periods are irregular but usually stay within the first portion of each month.

I had my first child six months ago and because of a few health conditions and the fact that I went through a cesarean less than a year ago I decided to get everything checked out. I had a blood draw and transvaginal ultrasound done two days after my positive pregnancy test (roughly nine days after my missed expected period.) The ultrasound technician alerted me that because my hormonal level was below 2,000 she would not be able to see anything inside my uterus at that time. I was sent home with nausea medication and worry.

I followed up a week and and half later with another blood draw, this time my levels were and 16,000. I got another transvaginal ultrasound and saw and gestational sac and yolk sac. My doctor informed me that with such a high level of hormones a fetal pole should be present. They diagnosed me with a blighted ovum. I researched blighted ovum and found that with a blighted ovum there is no yolk sac, but I have one.

On two days ago I had another blood draw and it was 40,000. The nurse told me this was unexpected and I possibly have a viable pregnancy on my hands. I am terribly confused and was experiencing grief of losing a pregnancy when they told me it was a blighted ovum. I need feedback, positive or negative from ANYONE who may have gone through this before. My doctor is encouraging me to schedule a dilation and curettage but my levels are rising and I have not had a follow up ultrasound. I have had no cramping but did experience spotting after intercourse about six days ago. My gut is telling me to NOT have a dilation and curettage because I feel this is a viable pregnancy. In your opinion, what should I do?

Get a second opinions and do not let them do a d and c with out another ultrasound it reallyssounds like a viable pregnancy I had a scare like this at the beginning of this pregnancy where they thought I should be 9 weeks but seen no fetal pole I had a couple more ultrasiunds and am 36 weeks now

I think i would go get a second opinion! Maybe wait a week or 2 then go to a different doctor.

I know that waiting 2 weeks could seems like a life time but maybe by that point things will have settled out

I think you have viable pregnancy. Do not let them do anything without an ultrasound!!! I had an empty sac  no pole, emorrage and I am 37 weeks pregnant.  Hang in there!!! It is that because you are irregular like me you are still early to see the heart beat. Some bleeding after intercourse it's normal because there is much more blood in your body now. Get checked by another dr. Or hospital. They made worry a loooot, but time is the only thing that is going to give you answers. Try to think positive!!! Praying for you and your baby and a healthy pregnancy for you!!!

Thanks Jessybell2012 for your response. That makes me feel better. I have had miscarriages in the past which is why I feel like I would know if I'm having one. I think my best option is to wait it out. I had my son six months ago but I have always wanted a lot of children so I am thrilled to be pregnant again

Oh that's okay. It's late and sometimes questions like this take a few bump sessions to get any responses. A blighted ovum is when a fertilized egg attaches but doesn't form. A dilation and curettage is basically when they dilate your cervix and scrape out the contents of your uterus. It's usually used after someone has an incomplete miscarriage and there is tissue left.
