How early should I get a sonogram?

I found I was pregnant on December 25, 2010.  On January 10, 2010 (6 weeks 5 days) I had vaginal bleeding and was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage.  A large blood clot was found on the placenta.  I was put on strict bedrest and iv fluids for 4 days because we saw a very strong heartbeat and my cervix was closed. After being released from the hospital, I was on bedrest for 2 more weeks.  I had a sonogram at 8 wks 5 days and everything was good to go.  4 days later my baby's heart stopped beating. The doctor's believed that since we had seen a very strong  heartbeat over a 3 week span, an abnormality did not stop the baby's heart but that the blood clot cut off blood supply to the baby (it was right over top of the umbilical chord area).  I did not find out that my baby had stopped growing until I should have been 13 weeks.  The OBGYN found no heartbeat and that the baby was measuring at 9 wks 2 days.  I ended up having 2 D and C's to remove everything.  We were told to wait 2 menstrual cycles to try again.  We waiting exactly two menstrual cycles and just found out that I am 4 weeks 1 day pregnant.  Even though I am emotionally at peace with my miscarriage in February, I am terrified for it to happen again.  To put my mind at peace with this pregnancy, how early should I go do a scan?  Should I wait until 6-7 weeks when the baby's heartbeat could be picked up?

Yes I think if you wait until 6-7 weeks you can hear the heartbeat and you will feel better if you do one now you will not hear anything and just worry more I had a scan at 5 weeks 4 days and there was no heartbeat and all I did was stress out because I had a miscarriage before too but a week later 6 weeks 4 days we were able to hear the heartbeat and put my mind at ease now I'm 18 weeks along. I know its hard to wait but just hang in there and I'm very sorry for you lost.
