We worked on nursery first, getting the room cleaned out and then finding furniture (crib, changing table, night stand and dresser) because those are gender neutral things. After we found out gender we started getting crib sheets, changing pads and some little decorations. You'll get a lot of clothes at baby showers, so we didn't focus on those. But the bigger items like a stroller, car seat, bouncey, things like that.

Poetry, babies are very easy to take care of - you'll get the hang of diapering in 15 minutes.
The bigger things you need to be doing to prepare for the baby are:
Get your housing situation in order so there is ample space for you and the baby in a calming, supportive and healthy home.
Get your finances in order so you know where the next meal is coming from, and if you have a dead car battery you can get it fixed.
Develop friendships with other people who have children, so that you have people you can count on to help you out if you need a ride somewhere, if the baby is sick and you need to groceries, etc.
Best wishes.
It's never top early to start preparing in my opinion. I'm a ftm top and 21 weeks. I started with the big stuff, crib carseat, etc. Things like clothes I just got what I liked in various sizes and when he gets here I'll figure out what fits. I've chosen to breasted but I know nothing about how to do it I figure I'll learn along the way. Like the first post says, we are all going to make mistakes, I'm sure there will be a day when he's a week old that I realize I don't have something I need and when that happens I'll figure it out. Don't stress yourself, just take it one day at a time and maybe ask your mom or an aunt or something whenever you have a question.
Look this is my first time having a child and I give birth in 4 days and Im soo scared my myself but I learned to trust myself and with the baby's father he will be there to help me as much as I need him. I think you will do great if you believe in your self like "I'm going to take care of my baby the way I want to, I'm going to be a great mom I might do mistake but I learn from them" it's true I definitely know I might make a mistake because I don't know how to hold a baby but I will learn. And in things you need to buy, all the important stuff goes first crib, car seat, diapers, wipes, cloths ,and more than you can buy toys if you want you can even look it up on the internet there's so many sources to help you! I can even help you if you want i already have everything for my son!! Don't put yourself down to much your baby will know, enjoy the gift that god has given you!
