I just got pregnant

I just found out I am pregnant but I am on medication for my back.  I am on prescription oxycontin 60 milligrams a day and percocet.  I realize that this is very dangerous to a pregnancy.  My question is any dosage safe?   I shatterd my knee and I also have numerous back problems.  I know that during pregnancy my back will be worse than it is now.  I wanted to know what I should do.  I have been on the medication for over three years and I am afraid of the withdrawal and also how to survive nine months without any relief.  Before my pregnancy I could barely walk inj the morning without the relief from pain meds.  Is it safe to take a low dose?  What are the possible effects it will have on my baby?  MY gynocologist told me a low dose is safe but I am not sure if that is true.

Sincerely
  Jen

They're definitely not safe during pregnancy. Your doctors will know the best plan of action! Withdrawal will be hard, you will probably be in some pain, but it will be well worth the effort when your hold your sweet baby in your arms!

Jen~ Seriously talk to your OBGYN and get more than one opinion k?  Some narcotic meds ARE Safe during pregnancy.
I myself was on Vicoden every 4 hrs (5/500) for the last 5 MONTHS of my pregnancy and my son was born just fine, with no problems related to the meds. I honestly doubt they'll put you on methadone, I think if anything they'll just lower the doesage of pain meds.

This may make you feel better. It's a website I found along with an excerpt of the info regarding the meds.:

----------------------------------------------
Excerpt: Name: OXYCODONE
Class: Narcotic Agonist Analgesic
Risk Factor:    BM*

Fetal Risk Summary
Oxycodone is a narcotic analgesic available as a single agent or in combination with nonnarcotic analgesics, such as acetaminophen or aspirin. Reproduction studies in rats and rabbits at doses up to 4 and 60 times the human dose of 120 mg/day in a 60 kg adult (0.7 and 19 times the human dose based on mg/m2), respectively, found no evidence of fetal harm (1).

The Collaborative Perinatal Project monitored 50,282 mother-child pairs, 8 of which had 1st-trimester exposure to oxycodone (2). No evidence was found to suggest a relationship to large categories of major or minor malformations or to individual defects.

I really hope this helps. I think if anything your doctor would rather you be comfortable than in MAJOR pain because no matter what anyone says, Pain can make your blood pressure go up and that's not a good thing, that in itsself can cause more issues than the med. so don't worry too much and for the time being continue to take your meds as prescribed.

I have back problems, and let me tell you first you need to call your ob/gyn and back doctor and tell them that your pregnant and need to switch medications.  Those dosages are not even save while pregnant!  They can put you on methadone with a closely monitored dosage that will be better from you and you wont go through the complete withdrawls!  And the lose dose isn't safe.  I have high risk doctors, for pregnancy and they have said that only vicodin, and methadone in monitored doses are safe.

However, when your not pregnant you really need to come off the medicines.  You'll develop a high pain tolerance if you do so, by just living in pain!  I've have numerous surgeries on my knee's, I have a bunch of herniated discs in my back, lower and upper, and my pain tolerance is now high!

With your back bad you may end up on bedrest from not being able to handle the pain!
