Is it safe to swim after Dialation begins?

Ok, here's the thing. I'm 28weeks and I know that some women can go WEEKS being dialated at only 1 or so. If this begins to happen to me, will I still be able to safely swim in the pool?

I'm gonna be pregnant all of August, and due Sept. 13, there's a real chance it'll be 115*F during most of that time. I can NOT handle the heat and my AC here at home isn't working as efficiently as it should, so swimming is the only thing that'll make me even remotely comfortable.

Also, what about baths as long as there are no soaps or bubbles in the water...?

Thanks ladies, Srry to seem so silly, but I've got NO experience with this.

hello Ladies,

Thank you so much for making this post. I am 37 weeks now and 1 cm and  today is a record breaking hot day. I wanted to know if it would be safe for me to go swimming at the lake. yesterday when we went I stayed on the blanket and read. But I don't think I could handle that today. I will give it today then. thanks ladies.

My SIL was put on bedrest at 25 weeks and was 2cm dialated.  Her doc said it was okay for her to get in the pool, just as long as she's not swimming vigorously or anything.  So, she just got in just to get wet and walked around and then got out.

Yea I'm excited! it seems like yesterday I was only at 3-4months. Technically it'll be July5th when I'll be 30 weeks, so I am going to the beach for july4th to just have fun.

What gets me tho is I have more stretchmarks today, so I'm wondering If I'll have courage to go out in my bikini! (which I REALLY would rather do as my maternity bikini top is uncomfortable.)

I have been told to take luke warm baths throughout my pregnancy when I am feeling tired, swollen and heavy so I dont see why swimming would be a problem.  Water doesn't enter your vagina anyway....but I too am no doctor.
Good luck!

Cool let me know what your doctor says too. I'm due very close to your due date, Sept 12 is when I due. I can't picture a summer without swimming the heat will be too much.

Same here, my personal thoughts was that as long as your not roughhouseing or doing the splits or anything that water won't get into your vajayjay... But I'll def. tell you all what the doc says.

I don't know what a doctors oppinion on that is, but I read somewhere that it has been proven that water does not enter the vagina. I was induced on Thursday June 19th and went swimming the Monday before. I would think you would be fine. My doctor said it was okay, but if you have any concern call your obgyn and ask a nurse.

Let me know what they say on friday. I was at the beach today and was forced into the water to resue my 4 year old that started drifting out. I am a finger tip dialated. That really freaked me out cause the lake is sooooo gross!!

With my youngest son I was dialated 2cm for a month, and I was told no baths, no swimming, and no sex. You have a higher risk for infection to get in your uterus. Although every doc is different and has their own insight and opinions, so maybe if you ask your doc he would be able to give you better advice.

I would assume that you shouldn't have bubble baths or go swimming if you knew you were dilated because your water could break. But I'm not expert and I can't remember what I read from when I was pregnant! Hopefully this will just bump your ? back to the top and someone else will have more insight!
