Menstrual irregularity caused by m/c?

Hi!

I had a m/c  d/c in Aug '09 after being 11 weeks along.  Had bleeding issues from week 6.  My OB kept telling me daily bleeding was ok as t/v ultrasound was normal.  However, last one showed some bleeding into the placenta but heart beat was 160.  Again he told me all was good, go home.  Found out had miscarried few days after last scan.  Didn't start to pass on its own until 2 wks later (how I found out it was ending) and had to have d/c to remove tissue.  Now, many months later I hadn't had a period.  Last week he put me on Provera for 5 days to "jump start" my period.  It worked and I'm now on day 7 of period.  When asked why I am suddenly having irregular periods since I've been normal my whole life I'm told its probably due to my being overweight.  I've done some of my own research and while have found some studies/articles that say obese women have a slightly higher risk of m/c not found that it was a sudden onset.  I've been this weight (give or take 10-15 lbs) for 8 years.  I have a hard time believing that my weight suddenly kicked in as an infertility issue.  I was ovulating normally and had regular periods right up to pregnancy.  Has anyone else found this to be a problem?  Been told this?  I'm thinking of getting a second opinion.

Sorry this goes on and on.  Would appreciate any comments or advice for resources.

Thanks!

Like she said, It is very common to have irregular periods after you have had a mc. I have had 2.. and mine were irregular for about 4 or so months after.

I have very regular periods I've never been on BC and I got pregnant in Feb 07 I ended up having a missed mc which was found at my 12w scan. I then went in for a DNC. I didn't have a period for 45 days after the DNC. I then had cycles anywhere from 30-36 days after always being 28 day cycles. I am now back to my 28 day cycles a year and a half later. Finally not having pregnancy symptoms as PMS symptoms last month.  I'm trying to conceive again and it's a lot harder this time around.

It is very common for your cycles to be irregular after a MC.  Weight can affect your cycle but usually not a sudden change after 8 years of being around the same weight.

If you don't trust your Dr I would suggest getting a second opinion.

What about weight?
If you're overweight, your risk during pregnancy is higher for things such as high blood pressure and diabetes. You may also be less comfortable during pregnancy, and your labor may be longer. If necessary, use the time before getting pregnant to lose extra weight.

It doesn't say anything about miscarriage. i was 128 lbs when i had my miscarriage. it just means there was something wrong with the baby.

take care
