So my husband and i had decided on the name lily for our little girl. but i just reciently found out how popular the name is. i had NO idea. now he feels like we can't change the name because a) we both love it, b) thats what we have told everyone her name is and c) because in his mind thats who she is to him now. (he even has nicknames for her). my question is should i be concerned that its such a popular name? I always said i would have unique names and #17 on the most popular list is not exactly unique.
Also what do you all think of the variation "Liliya" do you think its like old lady sounding?

It sure has boomed, but that was my point. No matter what you name your little one it seems it is either popular or becomes popular. When I named my kids I picked from baby name books that contain thousands of names I thought, "No one will ever name their kids this" Boy was I wrong 2 out of 3 times. I have a Bailey & a Lilly. Both real popular names either in their age group or shortly after. Pick what you like & know that your little one will be unique no matter what ;)
Apparently it has become really common in like the last 3 years because of some popular tv shows.
I have a Lilly & she is 9. There are no other Lilly's her age that we know so I guess I beat the name boom. Her full name is Lillian Grace so she could go by either. We named her Lilly because she was due on Easter. Like Easter Lily!
Just because it is on a most popular names list doesn't necessarily mean it is very popular. I work at a preschool with 350 children and we only have one Lily. We have 3 boys named Jace, however, and I haven't seen it on any name lists.
cute!!!! i don't know anyone with that name not even for a middle name but its beautiful...
i say go with what you like. 3 years ago when i had my daughter i said i wouldn't not give her a common name bc i liked unique names also, but we named her madison we loved it and still do... madison rayne. ... personally idk many lily's maybe 2 where im from, one of them her name is lillian and goes by lil or lily.
Lily is a beautifull name regardless how popular you baby girl will be different from everyone else I would understand if you had another family member named lily but if not your lily will be your original lily :)
