Ovulation test reliability

Okay, so I broke down and bought a Clear Blue ovulation test and BBT.  I figured I would use them on the next cycle, because I was pretty positive there was no hope for this one.  I decided to use one when I got home, just to see if I was right.  I had some pain in my right lower quadrant last night at 2 am, and I'm kinda thinking that was ovulation pain, even though I have been cramping for the last week.  Well, my test was positive (definite smiley face).  My question, and I'm not sure if anyone who have a clue about it, but how accurate are the ovulation tests?  Has anyone been told by the testing that you were ovulating, and it was because of something else?  Or that you didn't ovulate at all?

The first time I used the ovulation tests, I got a positive response, and we got pregnant!  I used the First Response tests.

They worked for me!!!  Hence I am 18 weeks pregnant now :)  Good luck.  Just make sure that you are consistent and do the test at the same time every time.

Thank you guys so much.  I'm feeling a lot more optomistic that I was before I tested.  I'm still guarded though regarding PCOS.  My one sister was diagnosed with it years ago, but my other one got pregnant right away, literally without trying.  My plan is to BD for the next few days and do HPT after October 8th, but if it doesn't work, to temp and use the tester next month.  I'm just gonna keep my eyes open if the tester is positive every time I use it.  Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I had been using ovulation kits for probably 4-5 months.  Each month there were no positive for ovulation.  I was also tracking my temps, which stated i was ovulating.I should also mention i had a m/c and no cycle for the 4-5 months that followed.  I finally called the doctor and he had told me that if the tests were not picking up any surge then more then likely i wasn't ovulating, especially because i wasn't even getting a period.  Therefore he put me on provera and clomid.  Clomid makes you ovulate during a specific time frame.  The first 50mg the test strips still didn't show a surge and I still didn't have another period.  Therefore the doctor put me on a higher dose and the next time i tested with the clear blue it gave me a nice big smiley face.  I am now 7 1/2 months pregnant.  So i am a true believer in the ovulation sticks =)

Thanks.  Here's to hoping I'm either ovulating, or pregnant.  And hoping that I don't have PCOS.

I have been using the ovulation tests as well for months now.  Since I have been tracking my periods and when I should ovulate according to the days, it seems right on track.  My periods are pretty regular, but the kit picks up when it was a varied one.  Since it just detects a hormone surge they seem to work for me.  My friend however had such a hard time with them because it never detected it and went by the basel T.
we have been trying with the kits for months and months and no luck...but i don't blame that on the accuracy of the kit...good luck!
