Percocet and Pregnancy?

Hi All, I have a question and would appreciate all advise.  My sister is 33, and finally got pregnant after IVF.  She is now in her 9th week.  She has had a really hard time cause of all the discomfort of over stimulation.  She woke up in the middle of the night two night ago in screaming pain in her abdomen.  She went to the ER.  They have been giving her something called Diluten(sp?), and now switched to Percocet.  They have been doing tests, and ruling out lots of things.  They thought maybe it was her appendix, but its not. Now they think its cause her right ovary is still so large cause of the over stimulation that it is twisting causing less blood flow to the ovary.  this is causing it to get even bigger.  Now, I know these drugs are somewhat risky for the fetus's.  She is carrying twins.  But I want to know if anyone else has been in this situation?  Maybe taken these drugs with their pregnancy?  We, her family are just nervous.

congrats on your little guy!!  did your pain go away or doid you have to deal with that pain for your whole pregnancy?  She had surgery today.  They found that her inflamed ovary was twisted which was slowing the blood flow to the ovary.  they untwisted it and she feels so much better.  so far the fetus's look ok too.  they looked at them pre and post surgery and the heartbeats are good and strong.  the only negative is that her blood count is a bit low.  they are going to take another look at that tomorrow.  so, we have a little relief now!!  thanks!!

I had the same thing happen to me when I was 21 weeks pregnant. The pain was unbearable! It turned out to be an ovarian cyst that stayed there through my whole pregnancy, but is fine now (4 weeks post partum). I was on percocet and darvocet for the pain and my little guy came out a healthy, happy 7lbs, 5 oz! :)

Hi, and thanks for the link!  I am just so nervous for her.  She has gone through so much already to get pregnant, and now she is in surgery.  They think her ovary has twisted which is what is causing her so much pain.  She was up all night in the hospital literally screaming in pain.  So they put her on a drip with the meds.  And still she needs more meds before the drip will allow her to get more.  they only allow it every 10 minutes and after two minutes she is screaming again.  Anyway, thanks for the help!

Here's a website to look at... http://www.obfocus.com/resources/medications.htm

Percocet is a category B, which means it's ok enough that docs will prescribe it to pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding.  I will tell you though, she should not take Lortab (hydrocodone) since something in it is different than the Percocet (oxycodone).  I was given Percocet after my first child and nothing happened.  I'm sure thats why she slept so good after she was born though. HAHA!  If she hasnt already, have her run the med by her doc and get their opinion too.
