if your brand of bottle is not included, please post and let us know the brand and what sort of nipple/flow you used, whether the bottle was plastic or glass, whether there was an anti-colic apparatus or not, etc....
if you used multiple bottles and/or have multiple children, you can list them all and PLEASE indicate your favorite...respond to the poll by choosing your favorite.
if you don't have babies yet please feel free to respond with a post about the research you've done and/or experience that you've noted with relatives and friends, but I really need the poll to be based on experience..thnx ladies.
Dr. Browns all the way. Totally helped with the major gas issue my son had.
Thanks Jez...I was curious about the Dr.Browns but they seem so expensive..the only reason I got the Tommee Tippees was because my MIL bought them for us to try...they've been awesome so far...but like I said it's early in the game. I may go to Browns if these don't work, my son is a royal gas bag.
I have used Dr. Browns with both Aiden and Conner, and they literally saved me from pulling my hair out over fussy babies. I plan on using them again with Kora on days that I have to pump and not breast feed directly.
It was totally worth the money. I got the set and only changed the nipple for the flow. It wasn't unreasonable and totally worth it. I never heard of the Tommee Tippees.
Since my baby isn't here yet, I can't say much, though if I remember you're breastfeeding (though I haven't seen if you still are or not) and I've read and seen a ton of mothers swear by a brand called Born Free. They're plastic or glass and have something that is supposed to help with Colic and such. Only drawback is they can be a little pricey. (I bought one for $8) Just thought I'd add that one as well and you could see if it interests you. :)
wow okay two strong endorsements for Dr.Browns I may be looking into those soon! LOL I'm serious though Grey is sooo gassy. He doesn't get stinky gas so I know it's not my diet and I know it's not the formula when I supplement...he's just gassy, and he farts when he does about...hm..anything. blinking, *fart*, breathing *fart* lol. He's a champion burper too...
This sounds so cliche' but I saw the Tommee Tippees in a magazine and decided they looked interesting..when we got to Babies R Us they had a huge display right in my face...how could I resist? LOL
Thanks Clysta! I've heard of that as well, but it wasn't there when I was perusing the Babies R Us yesterday...I may look into it more though, thanks :)
Definitely used the wal mart ones with the frogs on it...I think they were parent's choice or something like that...Elijah did well with them, but then again my BFing days were numbered and he mostly had the bottle...the cheapies worked well for me, and I didn't want to spend a fortune on bottles...
I think I know which ones you're talking about..we ended up getting a cheapie brand for Kahlan when she switched to the formula stage 2 because she was old enough not to need burping and didn't have gas concerns anymore...but both of them are gas-bags when they're newborns apparently, otherwise I would totally go cheapie again they are SO easy to clean!
I hear ya there, they are so easy. I never used any of the anti-gas bottles or anything like that. I don't know if they work or not, I just used the gas drops with Elijah, but he didn't get it that often, he just had trouble with going #2. Maybe this time I should try a different bottle, if I have to have one.
Yeah I have to double-team it with gas-drops AND the anti-colic apparati...one or the other apparently isn't sufficient for my SuperGassers....and I've tried diet changes and omissions, and when Kahlan was on formula we tried all of them...but my husband is also a gasbag so I'm guessing it's just genetic LOL
OH! But I did use the drop-ins too! MUCH easier than the cheapies to clean, and I didn't have to worry too much about forgetting a bottle at home, the only thing I had to clean was the nipple. They're pretty easy, and as long as baby is constantly sucking the air doesn't go back into the bag...They've got several different nipples, slow fast medium, latex and some other type...plus the nipple is, hmm...bigger, more like a breast I guess you could say.
Lol, SuperGassers...gasbag...LOL! *immature moment* LOL. I went ahead and voted the drop-ins, just because they were easier, and I didn't have to fuss with cleaning so much, and were a lot easier on long trips, or when I was out.
I used avent with my first 2 and for this one I am thinking that I will use Born Free
Ooooh Majikat you sound like me! I used Avent with my first and never had any problems but I'm thinking of going with the Born Free glass bottles this time around.
I voted the medela bottles. I used those until they were eating over 4-5 ounces, then I switched to either playtex, gerber or the walmart brand. I've never been big on the expensive fancy bottles
I was given a madela pump with all of the bottles and nipples. I was also given Avent and Dr Brown bottles. Guess we will see what the kid likes! HA!
Almost too many choices.
Honestly, we use the cheap parents choice bottles from walmart and we havent had a single problem with them. Matthew doesnt really have much problems with gas ....he toots a lot lol and doesnt actually require a lot of burping. the only thing he fusses about when eating is the nipple...it has to be a silicone nipple..medium flow. I like the parents choice bottles because u can afford to buy a buttload of them and u can buy short ones and tall ones. But if Boomer has gassy issues id prolly suggest spending your money on the more expensive kinds.
Amanda-- yeah that's what I thought too...Like I said though hopefully these Tommee Tippee's will work out..they're easy to clean and very easy to hold and they really are very very much like the breast.
Spiket I like the medela ones but I have a bit of caution about them...the nipple is quite long and some babies gag on it, as well as it's also fairly hard IMO for newborns and takes the babies I know that use them quite a long time to finish eating...my SIL just switched to the Tommee Tippee's too because her medela pump bottles were too difficult for her little girl...so she pumps into the medela bottles and stores in them, but uses the TIppee's now.
Did you notice that problem with the nipples on the medelas, Cass??
Hmm so three people have mentioned Born Free..has anyone actually used them though?
I didn't use the nipples that came with the medela becuase my kids didn't like them, I just bought several different ones that would fit and tried them till I found one that worked.
oh okay makes sense...so you didn't like the medela nipples either then. that seems to be the overwhelming complaint with those...they're really freaking long and hard (wow that sounds so wrong????) .
I only know one person who used them personally, and they're who recommended them to me. She said they work really well in terms of reducing gas and nipple confusion. (She breastfeeds and supplements with formula as well)
