Possible induction date

I had my 38 week apt today.  I'm 40-50% effaced no dilation and baby is at a -2.

I told the Dr that my pubic bone pain has now turned into a constant burning throbbing instead of just when I move. I still get a sharp pain when I move but it's now a constant pain.

He said let's do an ultrasound to check her growth and induce on SUNDAY! I'm a little nervouse to be induced but it's only 4 days before my due date.

I won't know for sure till after the ultrasound on Thursday.

You absolutely should!!! I had a blast doing it, it was great to have a cheerleading team around the world...AND..I love being able to offer it as a reference for women contemplating induction...I think that the more women who are sharing their birthing stories the better because it helps those who are going to give birth learn what they might be able to expect....so a big thumbs up if you choose to do it!

Asheleen- yes I did follow your live post of the induction. I'm actually tempted to do that myself.

If everything is good with the ultrasound I will acept the induction.

I wasn't effaced or dilated AT ALL when I was induced - at 41 weeks BOTH times!!

I never tried any of the so-called natural labour inducers, other than lots of walking.....Funnily enough, I was going to start drinking raspberry leaf tea this last time, I went out and bought a box on my way to the biophysical profile u/s that my OB sent me for in preparation for induction the following week if the baby still hadn't come.....I was sent directly to the hospital from the u/s appointment because things looked "concerning" and they ended up admitting me and inducing me the following day....so I never even got a chance to try it!! ;-)  (oh....and the baby was just fine, thank God!)

Anyway.....I had horrible back labour the first time - but from what I understand, back labou is more a function of the position of the baby rather than being induced.  The second time, the contractions were actually bearable.....I did get an epidural that time, too, but I might have actually been able to make it without one, I chickened out ;-)

So.....at least you have SOMETHING happening down there, whereas I was literally starting from square one, and I still had wonderful experiences, both times....back labour and all - and I'm sure that you will, too :-)

Don't listen to the people who tell you "not" to have an induction - there are far worse things.

here I'm just gonna link it and if you want to read you can....that way if you ask me to link it but I've wandered off you won't be stuck looking for it in the archives, lol.

but that's my induction story from start to finish as it happened...and it was a beautiful experience...so don't let people tell you it's wrong. elective inductions "just 'cause" I am not a supporter of...but I know that you've been in pain from this for awhile and it's a legitimate problem that can worsen as the baby's weight increases and so does the pressure...so I say go for it if they let you and try not to worry.

That's right Brittny..if your body is ready it will just kick-start things. My induction with Grey was literally short and simple....I don't know if you read where I was live-posting his delivery and birth, but if you want to read about an induction gone RIGHT I would be more than happy to link it so you can read about what they did for my induction and how short and easy it was...might help ease any fears you have?

anyway yeah if your body is ready it'll be just fine :). and if it's not ready you're stuck with the choice of a difficult/long induction...or suffering with the pain from your pelvis for longer....and i certainly don't blame you for wanting an induction with that choice in the balance!

Evening primrose oil helps to soften the cervix by providing prostaglandins and the components the body needs to make prostaglandins. This can help to ripen a cervix to help encourage labor or to speed labor. Evening primrose oil can be taken internally near the end of pregnancy. It can also be massaged directly onto the cervix if ripening is desired.

NOTE: Evening primrose oil should not be taken until after 37 weeks of pregnancy.

I've heard you can start taking it at 36 weeks also. I've read a few different websites info on it. I take 2 capsules a day orally.

A couple people have told me not to get induced because it will make my labor worse and longer. I know that it will make the contractions stronger faster. I think that if my body is ready for labor it will not make it worse.

I think it's supposed to soften your cervix Heather...and yeah Limonada is right inductions aren't as horrible as you hear...mine was freaking WONDERFUL and short and text book perfect...but I was also 5/6cm dilated and 100% effaced when they started the pitocin, lol.

I've been taking evening primrose oil every day for the last week. I think that's what's helped me efface so far. At 37 weeks I hadn't started anything.

I just got a massage and she worked some of the pressure points on my ankles that can bring on labor. I've been more crampy but nothing to big.

Maybe I'll go before Sunday. Crossing fingers I will.

I've been induced twice - if you have any questions, please message me.  It's not as horrible as people "tend" to think :-)

Good luck!!!!

Hey girl good luck! Just make sure that if you don't change in dilation and effacement significantly between now and then...BEG them to sweep your membranes, and use cervadil...and ask if you can use any oils to help your cervix soften..I think I've heard of using Evening Primrose Oil....because you don't sound favorable for an induction and that raises your risks for c-section...I think it's good that you're getting it because I know exactly what pain you're describing and it's just AWFUL...but you want to try to ready your cervix as much as possible between now and then (assuming it doesn't ready itself; things can change fast at this point :) ) so that you're not stuck in a long painful induction.
