Thats the same info I found. the ones I found were at RiteAid. ANd they were 500mg's I'm going to ask my dr when I go to my next app and see what they say. I've heard of women taking them. It's only supposed to ripen the cervix so that you can dialate.
Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg
capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted vaginally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perineal massage, then also rub on your cervix (assuming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach also.
this is what I could find.....But Im a little scared to try it, as I dont what to do anything that will harm the baby......
I only found one type at the store as well, but If i remember right they were like 1000mg!
I only found one type at the store. They were small and they were 500mg's. I tried looking up the info on diffrent web sites but most dont really say how much to take.
Ok, i was wanting more infor on this too......I went to the store and found them and they looked like "horse pill" they were so big.....So how many do you take? and what about the different mg.'s??
Just out of curiosity how many a day are you supposed to take?
Oh, okay.....well that makes sense:) Thanks for getting back to me on that! I hope you have a great day....
I'm speaking of the capsules taken by mouth. Not sure about the suppositories. When you're TTC, like Cheesecake said, you're supposed to stop taking them after ovulation to prevent miscarrying.
Also, some women take EPO at the end of pregnancy to get contractions going so that they at least dilate, if not go into actual labor!
Thanks for your reply:) I am just so ready because of these pains I have had for a few months already! I figured since I am in the 37th week now, what the hey? LOL
I hope you all have a great night!
Im with Joy, I used to take EPO during the first two weeks of my cycle when I was TTC. My RE had suggested it and he told me to stop as soon as I ovulated, and not take it when I was pregnant because it can cause uterine contractions. But, maybe that would help you accomplish your goal. Good luck! : )
That sounds rather promising:) Thanks for the info!!!
If you don't mind my asking, is there a site you found that says it will make your uterus contract? All the ones I read on say that the prostaglandins that help to thin the cervix so I am confused:(
If you take Evening Primrose Oil it will cause your uterus to contract.
P.S I plan to try it again this time around........I really dont want to go past my due date. I am already very uncomfortable already, lol:)
I started taking it after my midwife suggested it at 37 weeks. At my 38 week check up I was 4 cm dialated and I went into labor the next morning at 3 am...had my son at 6 am. Cant say for sure if it helped or not because I was not checked for dialation at my 37 week check. Also I took it orally and didnt put it near my cervix like I was told.............But its worth a try to get things moving:)
Good luck!!
no problem!! You are almost there girl! I was 38w1d when I gave birth. The baby will come when ready...but yea....give it try...it can help. Before you know it you will be holding your little one! It's wonderful! =) Thank you for the photo comment as well.
I guess it would be hard to tell whether it truly helped or not, huh? I think I will give it a try though:) I am 37w1d and am so very uncomfortable! Thanks for getting back to me....
I used it 2 weeks before i went into labor....my midwife had me take it 3 times a day. Honestly...I am not completely sure whether it helped or not...I'm sure it did...but I was also taking other stuff as well. But it cannot hurt...that's for sure! =) I had a natural delivery and everything went pretty smoothly along the way, couldn't complain!
