Quad screening

Who is planning on having a quad screening done?  i said yes to my doc, but now im a little worried about it. I am a worrier so i would hate to worry for no reason. Also, I wouldn't do amnio either way.  the positive thing is that my level 2 ultrasound is exactly a week later so if i get bad news that should really tell me more.

I have always done the quad screening, really i guess becuase it's standard procedure for the docs i've gone too.  I know I could have refused it but I never did.  I know the risk of the results not being accurate.  I have had 5 full term pregnancies so far and all 5 have come back normal. I am having my quad screen this time on the 30th.  If it comes back high risk I will ONLY do the level 2 u/s.  I would only use it as a reference point to gather info JUST IN CASE.  I will not opt for any further testing like amnio or anything.  I alraedy know that regardless of the results I would not terminate.  This baby is in my care but his/her ultimate fate is in God's hands and I will let his plan play out however it is meant to.  I'm not one to get all worked up over things unless I know 100%.  That doesn't mean I don't worry/prepare but I don't freak out so I know I could handle whatever comes my way.

I didn't do it because I know they have way more false positives and I don't want to get a false positive and get all stressed about it. Plus the doctors told me that at my age and with no family history of genetic diseases I had a better chance of going outside and getting ran over by a truck lol. Anyways then I got the 2nd trimester screening anyways and for what the lady told me everything looked fine. Healthy baby! Not that they can positively detect something but near close, and if they saw something they didn't like they would tell the doc

I did the screening - and for me.. I wish I had not.  It was a sequential screening- first trimester blood and us for neck fold and 2nd trimester blood,  I receieved my results last monday with a 1:78 chance of Trisomy 18 - which is not compatiable with life.. I have been an wreck since - I scheduled a 2nd level 2 us and chose not to do the amnio as the if the baby made it to birth had a 10% chance of living past the first week.  I am 33 and in good health ... since then I have not slept, eaten.. flipping out at my hubby and throwing up constantly because of how upset I am.  I decided after speaking with the drs to go for the amnio while I was there for my level 2.... Needless to say - I had that appointment today prepared with all my risks for miscarriage ( I have history of perterm labor and incompetent cervix) - they did the us for almost an hour... we saw all 10 fingers.. all ten toes (we counted) the face, lips, nose.. measured the all the spine.. bones in legs, arms .. belly .. kidneys..blood flow to kidneys - I have had many level 2's before but not one like this.. Needless to say - the dr reviewed all of the images... and told me with Trisomy 18 there would be markers that they are not seeing on the scan and told me that with 99.5% certainty the baby did not have Trisomy 18- We DID NOT DO THE AMNIO!!!  I feel a ton better... and I personally would never do the test again... It was too much worry and the fact I was sooo scared I was willing to do a procedure that I never wanted to do.... It is a personal choice... I just thought I would share my story - not to deter you... but if you are not willing to do an amnio and would not term... it can cause a lot of unnecessary worry.. Best of Luck!

I just had my quad screening today, won't knw the results until early next week. i alos was'nt sure if I wanted to get it done or not, I was'nt pressured by my Dr office just asked if I wanted it and was unsure. I would not do and amnio or terminate the baby even if it came back with a 100% chance, so in some ways i felt there was no need to get it, but on the other hand if i were to test high for something, I would like a little time to prepare myself and research what my baby might have! I ended up deciding to have it done and will get the results early next week, then have my ultrasound the begining of april.

i wish i declined, but they encouraged it because its a simple blood test, i didnt even know what i was signing really.  ill probably just do it because i will most likely have the anatomy scan before i get the results back anyway. i love my baby no matter what and i would never end its life.

I did not get it as there are to many false tests and it does NOT tell you weather the baby has anything or not. Just the chance of it. Anything that could be wrong with the baby a dr would need to know at birth would show up on US 97% of the time. Nothing can be done while pregnant and I feel it is worry for nothing and takes the joy out of the pregnancy. This test used to be for woman oler then 37 and woman with genetic predisposition in prior pregnancies. It was legalities why they even offer it now! I think if you want a baby and you get pregnant, you fall in love with the baby no matter what and that bond will not grow the saem if you have in the back of your mind that the baby is different or you would terminate. The test is ONLY for dr's to have you sign a paper saying you will or won't terminate anyway for theri liability, it has NO medical reasoning for the test. Like getting a breast augmitation or cercumcision for a boy, a cosmetic thing with no medical bearing. I know lots do not agree with me and that is fine. We are all intitled to our own opinion for our lives and selfs. You have tomake the decision yourself but that is why I did not have it.

I declined the quad screening and just did the level two ultrasound. I really am not sure if I would have done the amnio, but since everything turned out well, I didn't need to make that choice. Just remember that the quad screening is just that, a screening and is no way definitive in the results. Sometimes they can cause more worrying than is necessary. Either way, it's a personal choice.

I am definitely planning on doing the quad screening just because I am a very prepared person. I have had one amnio done (with my last son) and it was scary but it didn't hurt a bit and it gave me the piece of mind I needed.
