Stripping Membranes?

Thinking about trying to get this done tomorrow.... anyone care to share their experiences?

Yeah I agree with sabby and brinnyfox. Mine really wasn't worth it. I got it done just about 40 weeks, was 4cm dilated 75% effaced and nothing. All it did was make me feel really sick for a couple days, plus it was painful to get done. I might do it next pregnancy but only as a last resort prior to induction. That's not to say it doesn't work though, I know women who've gotten it done and by the end of the same night had their babies

Because membrane sweeps truly only work if your body is ready and it can be quite painful and uncomfortable and make things even more uncomfortable if your body isn't ready. Your body has 42 weeks to deliver that's when you should be resulting to membrane sweeps, acupuncture, prenatal massages, those are all last resorts.

Sabby why a last resort? I will be asking for one also ... B/c of my previous c-section I cannot be induced and have a c-sect scheduled if I make it to my due date.

They are inducing next Tuesday so I'm hoping it will jumpstart labor and I won't have to be induced. Last week when they checked me I was between a 1-2 and was 75% effaced. Hoping to at least be at a 3 tomorrow, I haven't mentioned a membrane sweep to my Dr. yet but I figure no harm in asking.

A membrane sweep should be your last resort for when your past your due date. There is an 80% chance you will go into labor if your 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. I had mine done at 41 weeks and gave birth the next day.

It sucked and didnt work...i got mine done at 39 weeks hoping it would jumpstart labor so i wouldnt have to be induced. ..well, im 40 weeks today and im being induced 7am tomorrow. ..i will never ask for a sweep again...hope it works for you tho if you go for it!
