Temp shift during cycle

BBT question. . .

I know a shift of .4 that stays high means that you just ovulated.  I'm on cycle day 13, and so far my temps have been anywhere from 97.2 to 97.5.  So, do I look at a .4 shift from the 97.2 or from the highest temp 97.5?  I'm confused by that?  Anyone know the answer?

It's possible, but it will normally get higher.  See, it seems as though our temps are probably pretty close as far as pre and post ovulation.  For me, my temp is normally below 97.5 prior to ovulation.  And then once ovulation has taken place, my temp will be 97.5 and higher until AF is coming.  Mine will normally be in the high 97s and low 98s once I O.  The progesterone level will increase during your luteal phase which will make your temp continue to rise, so you can expect it to get higher than 97.5.  My temp will start to drop the day before my period is to come.  So on the 2nd day of my temp drop, AF will be here.  If you want to PM me your e-mail address, I will e-mail you past cycles of mine so you can see.  It won't let you give it to me on here unless you put spaces.

But your temp will fluctuate.  So, you will have to get through 1 complete cycle to see what is normal for you pre O and post O.

Geez, I hope I am making sense.  Am I making sense???

I guess my confusion is, if my temp stays at about 97.5 for a few days, does that mean I o'd, cause it's been at 97.2 a few times. . . Or, does it have to get up about .4 above 97.5, so about 97.9 before I o'd.  Sorry for my confusion.  I've read so many websites on this, and can't seem to get it.

Not necessarily because your temp can vary.  Once you have a thermal shift for 3 days, that is when you can assume that you have ovulated.  According to FF, any 1 temp doesn't necessarily mean anything because our temps can vary for many reasons.  I've had mine rise a bit for 2 days and then drop.  You will know that you have Oed once it stays high.  And FF will draw red cross hairs on your chart to show you that O has taken place.  You won't have to guess.

Are you using fertility friend.com?  They give a lot of answers about temping, plus it shows you when you've ovulated.  When you ovulate you will see a significant drop in temperature to three consecutive days of high temps after that.  It stays high until you get your AF and then it drops.  If it doesn't drop at all then most likely you are pregnant.  I hope that answers your question.
