UTI and pregnancy

Hi,

A few weeks ago I went to the doctor for what I thought was a UTI as they have been recurring the past six months. He sent my urine away for testing. That weekend I found out I was pregnant and then on Monday my results came back andI have a bad UTI once again. When I told the doctor I thought I maybe pregnant he said that the medication he was going to give me is not suitable as it is very strong and there is no other medication that would help this UTI. He told me to sit it out and drink plenty of water and hopefully it will go away. Its now 21/2 weeks later and I still have it. It doesnt cause pain at all, my urine just smells like a very strong chemical. I am now 6 weeks pregnant and I dont think it is right I still have this. It cant be good while pregnant. Has anyone else had this?? Any info would be good.

Thanks

There ARE Antibiotics to take that are safe for UTI's. If your doctor tells you there are not any meds. Go see another doctor.

Congrats on being pregnant!

Also, if you live in the U.S. then go to the local pharmacy and look for a medicine called AZO. the pharmacist can help you. This medicine works MIRACLES with the pain that accompanies a UTI. it makes the pain go away, but doesn't treat the infection.

You can also try drinking cranberry juice everyday for a few days! (a couple glasses)

I had a UTI when I was 8 weeks pregnant and the dr gave me an antibiotic that was safe for pregnancy I would talk to your dr about a safe antibiotic I don't think it will go away with out medication and it can spread to an upper uti into your kidneys if untreated.

was it just a family dr you saw or your ob you saw?  If it wasn't your ob then maybe you should place a call to your ob and get his/her advice.
