Ultrasounds

Ok, So what I want to know is...

I had a Ultrasound done on March 9,2011. I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had a one night stand on Feb 18, 2011. (your prob thinking *****) but i need help! The Doc told me I conceived on Jan 25, 2011. My LMP was around Christmas and it was a full period. I had spotted in Jan but it wasnt heavy it was very light almost like none. I had sex with a guy off and on the whole month of Dec and Jan he was an ex and we were getting back togather but he cheated so.. I did something stupid. What I am asking is do I count back six weeks from Mar 9, 2011 or do I subtract two weeks from 6 weeks for it to be accurate! Im so confused with reading all this info on this site. I am due October 31, 2011 and im second guessing myself now.. Can anyone help!???

Early ultrasounds are pretty accurate so I would say it is not likely your baby was conceived from intercourse on February 18th but again, the only way to know for certain is to do a DNA paternity test.

Given that you are the probably father are not married, you really want to have a DNA test (even if you knew there was no other possible father, you need to establish LEGAL paternity and just putting a name on the birth certificate isn't always enough to protect your child's rights). I used to be a Child Support Enforcement Officer so I'm very familiar with the paternity and child support/custody laws in the United States...and trust me, you want to establish legal paternity through the courts, the sooner the better.

So really... It couldnt be the guy I had sex with on Feb 18th? I know that is that exact date, I had marked it on my calender. I know me and my ex stopped seeing each other on Feb 14, 2011. He thinks it is his. I thought it has been all this time. Did I just ruin his life? I feel so stupid. His mom and everyone is finally exited about all this and now I feel like a complete ***.

Hi, I think you may of gotten pregnant to the old boyfriend i can't be sure. The only way to know is a paternity test. This tells you who the father is.

If your gestational age on March 9 was 6 weeks, conception was approx 4 weeks prior to that. Gestational age actually starts before conception (for example, my LMP started Feb 8 so that is the date used to determine the gestational age of my baby...she was conceived right around Feb 22nd)

It is nearly impossible to determine that actual conception date on a natural pregnancy. I KNOW I ovulated and had intercourse on on Feb 22nd...but actual conception could have taken place anytime in the 48 hours after I ovulated).

I entered your due date in a conception date calculator and it says Your estimated conception date was between Monday, January 31, 2011 and Monday, February 7, 2011. (when i enter my own due date into this calculator I get between Tuesday, February 15, 2011 and Tuesday, February 22, 2011 and as I said, I know I ovulated on Feb 22nd so for me the later date is more accurate).

However, the only way to know for certain is to do a DNA test. It can be done in-utero via an amniocentesis but is usually done after the baby is born using blood or a cheek swab. You can open a case with your local Child Support Office (go through DHS) and they will locate the potential fathers and have the testing done (the guy who is found to be the father will generally end up reimbursing the state for his test).

Best wishes for you and your baby!
