Vicodin, is a commonly used prescription during pregnancy to help with pain management. But it is only used if absolutely needed, it is not proven to cause birth defects, but the main issue is withdrawals for the baby after birth. But it should only be used as prescribed by a physician, who can monitor your health and the babies health very closely throughout the pregnancy. Women on this medication also tend to have smaller babies, and they are born earlier. There are many ways that a women can get help for addiction during pregnancy, but first you need to talk to your doctor. That is the best way to start getting help. Also never ever try to go "cold turkey" off narcotics while pregnant, it could cause very serious problems, even miscarriage. Your doctor may decide to help you taper off them, or possibly start you on a drug such as methadone to manage your addiction more safely. Obviously the more you are taking, the worse it will be for your baby. You do not have to have an abortion, but you must seek help. You can do this, not only for the health and safety of your baby, but your health as well! Please please go to a doctor, be completely honest about how much your taking, and ask for help. You will get it, but you have to make the first step! I really do wish you all the best! Take care.
Vicodin is dangerous for a baby. I don't think you know your own strength until you're faced with a difficult situation such as this! Doctors are more helpful than you know and you're not the first person to be addicted to something and get pregnant so don't think you're a lost cause. Call your doctor, see if there are support groups that can help, programs in your area or ANYTHING to get you on the right healthy track for you and your growing baby. SO many people would be so thankful to be in your shoes, so if it takes a butt load of effort for you to work your way away from that addiction even if its just for the 9 months then by all means, go for it! You will encounter negativity and rude people, but don't let it stop you from seeking help before you terminate the pregnancy. Just check your options :) Bless your heart and keep me posted on your situation!
