MsXclusive~ I'm suprised they didn't give you Tylenol3 or Vicoden. The only reason they don't want pregnant women taking alot of it is because the baby can become addicted to it. But that's only if the woman takes it daily for a LONG period of time.
When I was pregnant last year I had a wisdom tooth to start coming in that had my mouth so sore that I could barely chew, I guess b/c the meat on top of the tooth was super swollen anyway I could not find not one doc who would pull it out they all said b/c I was pregnant. I finally found an oral surgeon who would do it and he only did it b/c I had just made it to my twelfth or thirteenth week I cant remember exactly which one and I had to have a letter okay'n it from my Gyn.(He said tht they only do it once your out of the first trimester). The only thing that he could do was numb my mouth, which didnt work very well b/c I was still in pain then to top it off I could take anything but regular tylenol for pain which dont work for me either. I was horrible either way whether the tooth stayed in or whether they took it out but after the first day I was fine. Not sure if this is what u were askin but I just thought I'd share it with u...
my dentist said you can get the cocktail to put you in oral sedation after you hit the second trimester with the ok from your ob. talk to your ob and see.
Ugh! I'm a big baby when it comes to dentists. I have the novacaine for fillings and I cry and have a panic attack so I don't think I could handle oral surgery like that. I'll bring it up at my next ob/gyn appointment!
They CAN take the tooth out, but the novacaine they use will have to be the kind without Epinepherine(Sp?) And My. OBGYN dr. gave me Vicodin to take for migraines so I know it's safe to take.
hydrocodone or tylenol 3 are safe. So long as they use local anasthesia like novacaine it's ok to have them removed during pregnancy too.
