benadryl and baby's movement

I took 2 tablets of benadryl last night around 10ish and it is now almost 24 hours, and i was able to feel the baby move before then but since i took it i havent been able to feel her move. I am almost 24 weeks and have been able to feel her move for over a month now and so its very wierd to me that i havent been able to feel her at all today.. Could something be wrong with my baby since i took the benadryl? if not then why havent i felt her move? it shouldve worn off by now...

Sorry I didn't answer your original question. Benadryl is a category B. Which means, it has not been shown to cross the placental barrier. In other words, it effects Mom, but the drugs do not reach the fetus. There are certain drugs that can cross through the placenta, and certain things the placenta blocks and will not allow in, Benadryl is one of them!

Have you tried drinking OJ or something really sweet and laying down for 15 minutes to see if she wakes up? Since it has been 24 hours, to be on the safe side I would go ahead and call your OB. If you have been feeling her move on a regular basis and now she's not that is always an alert for the OB's. I'm sure everything is fine, so don't panic!!!! I've had 4 babies, and have been down this road and they've always been just fine. Sometimes when we're moving we don't feel their movements, so it's not that they're not active we're just not aware. So, call your OB and update us as to what they say!

You're right, the Benadryl should have worn off and I believe it's safe to use during pregnancy. If you haven't felt the baby move in 24 hrs I would call your doctor's office and have them bring you in for heartbeat and/or ultrasound. If nothing else, piece of mind.

Most likely what happened is that she's still small enough to move into a position where her movements might be less obvious from time to time (although soon you won't be able to avoid them)...so you may just not be feeling her at the moment. However, once you start feeling regular movements, if the pattern changes it's always best to call your doctor and be on the safe side by getting their opinion. Benedryl is considered safe but if you feel like something's out of the normal for your baby always call your doctor and see what they say.
