just an update
i went to the doctor today and talked to him about the meds..
he said having a baby at my stage is far more dangerous then the risk. most birth defects are caused befor the 12th week.. so being 25 weeks the risks are way lower.. im not taking them daily but i will take one if i have have an attack.. thanks so much for all the input..
I agree with the other ladies. No harm in calling back to double check. try looking into bio-feed back and non-medical ways to address your anxiety. Good luck with things. Keep talking/asking questions. I have found a TON of support on this forum and others.
your OB would not prescribe it if he thought the risks out weighed the benefits. that is how the doctor thinks, which is more risky and to let you have panic attacks is very risky for you and the baby. i know many women, including one of my good friends who was on a mild sleep and anxiety med while pregnant. she actually found out her sister was terminally ill with cancer and only had like a few months to live and she put herself into labor at 27 weeks so the doctor put her on a mild med that the benefits out weighed the risks and her son is fine.
I agree 100% with Victoria I THINK that there are several anxiety medications (both long-acting and short-acting) that can be used safely with pregnancy, and it might actually be best to ask your pharmacist. Unfortunately a lot of doctors aren't as connected with medicines, side-effects, and complications as they should be. Is there any way you could become involved in yoga or tai-chi while you're pregnant to help deal with anxiety and panic by using exercise and meditation? Anyway, ask your pharmacist any time you have a doubt about a medication, they are more knowledgeable about the actual effects of most medications. Sad but generally true. Good luck, and definitely go with your gut if you're scared; no sense taking something for anxiety if it makes you more anxious/scared.
I would put a call into your doctor and ask about the side effects to the baby and then see if the benefits outweigh the risks. You could also ask doc if there is something different you can take that may be better while you are pregnant if the side effects of the current medications aren't worth the risk. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon. :)
