effacment and dialation question help???

when i went to the hospital about 3 days ago because i think i was just dehyderated i think i was having alot of contractions that were only 4 min apart but they hydrated me with an iv and i was better it took like 6hrs though for the contractions to stop but anyway the doc checked me and said i was 0dialated but i was 95% effaced. what the heck does that mean? im confused how long does it take to dialate after being 100% effaced??

if I'm not mistaken effacement is the thinning of the cervix and I thnk(don't quote me but I thnk) u hve 2 b at 100% efacement b4 u strt dilating I thnk.

No, actually it is different for each woman so it is impossible to tell you! Some women/pregnancies will completely efface before dilating at all, some will do them both at the same time.. Some will dilate a good bit before even beginning to efface at all.
There is no sure way to tell you. Sorry!! I know how much it su cks to not be able to know when it's going to happen, but your body will keep you guessing still.

i was 2 cm and 50% effaced when i was induced...so you don't have to be effaced to dilate...just think of it this way..you will only have to deal with the dilation part and not the effacement lol...

ok so i was hoping that maybe if i was fully effaced than i would begin to dialate and thats kinda what i want.lol but i guess you could also be dialated at like 1 or 2 cm and completly stop for a few weeks. so oh well i guess my baby will comeout whenever he is ready.

i was 2cm dialted before i was fully effaced...its diff for all women. good luck :)

I was 1 cm and 50% effaced for weeks and weeks!!! oh and weeks!! haha but being that effaced is wonderful! Good Luck keep us posted
