I am currently 27 weeks with my third pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I went into early labour at 25 and 28 weeks. I was given steroid injections for my daughter lungs and tablets which stopped the labour. My daughter was finally born at 32weeks and thanks to those steroid injections she was fine. With my second pregnancy I went into labour at 30 weeks. Again I was given steroid injections for my sons lungs and the labour was stopped. Unfortunately I was a carried of Group B Strep which we didn't realize at the time of my sons birth. He caught it and developed into septcaemia. He died aged 14 hours old. For the last week in this pregnancy I have had contractions. Last week I also had my show and when a cervical scan was performed they said my cervix was shortening and was given pessaries to try and stop it. I was told this baby would definitely be early as well but when I asked about the steroid injections for her lungs I was told no cos it wasn't in the baby best interest and that they were willing to take the chance of not being able to give them to her in time. I have jut found out that I am carrying Group B Strep again. I was told that I would be treated for it during labour no matter what but they refuse to give me antibiotics now to help clear it up. I really don't understand why when they know what is wrong why wont they take the precautions especially with my history and why they say they are willing to risk another one of my childs life. With my eldest two children all I got was a few contractions and was given steroids to help their lungs develop now I'm getting more signs of early labour plus they have said the baby will be here early so why wont they give them now. Can someone please explain it to me.

I was diagnosed with group b strep quite early and even though it can go away they are going to be safe and give me the meds when i go in labor which sounded like to me were hooked right up to an iv.  When you get admitted to the hospital they will ask you if you have it and right away will give you the meds.

I asked my doctor about getting treatment now but she said no even if i cure it now doesn't mean I won't have it then.  20% of women have this and it never leaves your body completely.

I am very sorry about your son, im sure this makes it a lot scarier.  I will pray for your labor and baby and hope everything works out great this time.

They usually wont give the steroid injections unless you have contractions and they can only give you the antibiotics while you are in labor other wise if they give it to you now you may get the group B strep back by the time you actually go into labor. As far as the steroid injections they probly dont want to give it to you unless they know for sure you are in labor, but you always have the right to see someone else and get a second opinion. Good luck hope all goes well for you.
