i'm pregnant but the doctor is confusing me

ok. i'm 23 years old. I have two children already, and this is my 5th pregnancy. I had an ectopic pregnancy and a blighted ovum both before i conceived my boys. My periods are very irregular. I contribute it to my generalized anxiety, but regardless ... i don't know when the first day of my last menstrual was. I went to the doc 2 weeks ago for something completely different and she told me that i had a "faint" positive pregnancy test. well, since then i've had 2 ultrasounds and 2 bloodtests with another urine test. i am definitely pregnant. the sonographer just bluntly told me that she couldnt see a heartbeat and there was nothign to see. then my doctor calls me a few days later and tells me my bloodwork is fine and coincides witht the ultrasound (even though the tech told me she didn't see anything)... I had another ultrasound on friday with a different tech and she told me that there was no heartbeat and all she saw was a "sack" where the baby would grow and there was no heartbeat but my "sack" was measuring me at 6 weeks. shouldn't there be a heartbeat already? it was a transvsag. ultrasound and i know their pretty sensitive ... why is everyone being so blunt and vague with me? i just want to know if there should be a heartbeat and what should be seen at 6 weeks on a NORMAL pregnancy. i'm worried that my past is coming back with another miscarraige.

If your not sure of your LMP and your bloodwork is doubling it could just be too early. I had a blighted ovum that was diagnosed in May. I was supposed to be 8 weeks (I knew my last period date because we were trying) and they only saw a sac measuring at 5 1/2 weeks and a yolk sac but no fetal pole. They checked my HCG which was high and rising but not doubling and were positive the pregnancy was not viable. I made them do another ultrasound a week later for my own peace of mind and we saw nothing had changed so I scheduled a D&C for June.

I hope everything works out for you and it is probably everything is ok especially because you are irregular and the doctor says your blood work is consistent with the ultrasound.

Also go to www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com that site helped me when I was going through uncertainty.

With my current pregnancy it wasnt until 8 weeks when they finally seen the fetal pole and yolk sac. Sometimes it takes longer to see things and try not to worry!

Ok I just found out I was pregnant. My last period was 7/08/09. So that would make me around 7 to 8 wks. I went to the doctor last thursday and they said I was 5wks and 2days????? All they saw was the gestational sac no fetal pole not heartbeat. Is this ok should I worry. This is my first pregnancy.

I just talked to my doctor this morning, she said (although the tech saw NOTHING) that she saw the gestational sack, and yolk sack, but no fetal pole. she's guesstimating me at around 5 weeks 3 days. i have another ultrasound in 2 weeks which would put me at the end of 6 weeks. she told me that this next ultrasound will be the telling point for me on whether this pregnancy is a "keeper" or not.

thanks to all that posted

she also said that the yolk sack was not there 1 week ago on the first ultrasound, so things are growing at any rate

I would wait 2 weeks and get another sonogram. You should see an embryo and heartbeat by then. Sorry they're being such unresponsive jerks!

I had an u/s at this pg at around 6 weeks and was told that all that they saw was a gestational sac, then a few days later I had another u/s and there was not only the gestational sac, but a yolk sac, fetal pole, and heart beat!! I am currently 13 weeks 4 days and the pregnancy is progessing beautifully!!
Its a great sign that your blood work is good! I agree with the other girls, its a good possability that it is just too early to see anything, or maybe your dates are off just a bit, even just a few days can make such a difference at this point. I know its stressful, especially with a history of m/c (I had 3 myself between my dd and my ds), but try to hang in there hun! And keep us updated! Have they scheduled you for another scan?? or more blood work??

I would agree with Miko!!!  Everyone is different, along with the fact that you might have concevied later than the date you think... so you could be less far along.  But if your blood work is comming back positive and your beta numbers are increassing, then I would say not to worry, they will keep giving you ultrasounds alont with cheeking your number every week to determin what is going on.  So don't give up hope, and maybe the techs weren't paying attention when they were scaning you, I mean all it takes is one slip of the hand and something that could be baby could be seen as something different.  But good luck, keep us posted and most of all don't give up hope until the doctors have told you something definat and even then, if you don't think that they are right, you could get a second oppion.

With my son, I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks 1 day. I started having pain and I was almost 6 weeks pregnant when the doctor couldn't see anything in the ultrasound. She said there was no sign of pregnancy in my uterus but I definitely had a positive pregnancy test. She didn't see a sac, pole, heartbeat, fetus, NOTHING! She then said I had an ectopic pregnancy and they had to take the baby which I REFUSED to do because something just told me that wasn't the case. So I waited a week later and went to a different doctor. I was almost 7 weeks by then and sure enough, there was my baby! Sometimes 6 weeks can be pretty soon to see anything. If you're not experiencing any pain, vaginal bleeding, or really bad cramps, then my guess is that your baby is just hiding still. Alot of women on this forum have had the same situation and some couldn't see anything untilo about 8 weeks. With this pregnancy at 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and I just heard my baby's heartbeat 2 days ago. It was my first time hearing the heartbeat. But with this one, I found out at 5 weeks pregnant, they confirmed I was pregnant IUP(intra uterine pregnancy) but there was not fetal pole, whatever that means. But I wasn't too worried since it was an IUP. But like I said 6 weeks can be too early, don't get so discouraged =) It could just be that the baby's still small and hiding...my son loved to hide when I was pregnant with him. Good luck and wishing you the best on a very healthy pregnancy!

Do you know if they can only see the gestational sac? Or did they see a yolk sac and fetus too?
