In The US, they always do a pap while pregnant..They test for STD's and other abnormalities that could affect the baby. I had mine earlier than you, but there are MANY conditions (not just STD's obviously) that ARE totally treatable while pregnant. =)
Good luck.
In the US you get a pap test at your first appointment and they want to test for things other than cervical abnormalities.
I've heard that it is not advisable past the first trimester...They do it early in your pregnancy in the US...whenever your first visit is (8,10 or 12 weeks)
I'm in Canada and i had it done during one of my first appointments.
Thanks guys,In England it is done in early pregnancy also , im really nervous on having it done mid pregnancy as have already had 2 prem babies (8 n 9 wk early) and really dont want to be messed about with in anyway.unless its necessary. Can a doctor refuse to look after me if i refuse one until after the birth?
Im really going to have to read about a pap smear test as im a little confused as to what it is to be honest, i thought it was the same as a smear test done in England where they basically scrape the cervix to test for cancerous cells, didnt know a pap smear involved testing for stds as well, Im pretty sure i dont have a std,but i would want to know if i did, just dont want them touching the cervix.Still very confused, but thanks to all.
Yeah...you've got it...a pap is the same thing but it does also show stds as well as abnormal cervical cells.
