Yea i know i just hope to hell i pass this test....and if i dont i hope i have that kind that can be managed with excercise and a special diet b/c i HATE needles and dont think i could give myslef insuline. i have a feeling tomorrow is going to take a long time to get here LOL
The dizziness and light-headedness doesn't always mean you're borderline diabetic. If you've fasted then your blood sugar is going to sky-rocket, especially if you drink even more sugar. You can get shaky, dizzy, and feel nauseous.
Anyway, the 3-Hour does stink but they'll let you lay down and maybe drink water. I brought a sandwich with me so I could eat it before driving off becuase I knew I'd probably feel ill. So pack a little lunch (maybe a plain PB sandwich and some milk---something with PROTEIN because jelly is basically just sugar and may make you feel worse).
And please know that gestational diabetes doesn't mean you'll develop regular diabetes, okay?!
I'm not positive, but I think my mom told me that they treat gestational diabetes with a strict diet plan instead of with meds. They give you a list of stuff to eat all day (with a few choices for each meal and snacks) and they just watch you more closely.
She told me that at least on the plan you're never hungry!
since you have a history w/ diabetes in the family... do you know if being severly lightheaded and dizzy is a symptom for a low or high blood sugar?
our youngest dd was born w/ the opposite of diabetes so you would think that i should know... but the things you look for w/ a low blood sugar in an infant arent' like that...
the nurse told me this morning that i might have had a low blood sugar... i called b/c i felt like someone had just spun around a million times on a tire swing and i could do was hold my head really tight and say "no no no"! i just now got up and ate a piece of bread...
Yea i will. Thanks. I know what you mean my doctor ruined my whole day, she called me at 9am and i thought it was to just check on me from last night but nope.....no such luck. man what a week this is turning out to be! if it gets any worse i think i am going to have an emotional break down. I guess its true what they say......when it rains it pours.
awh man!!! that's not what i wanted to hear when i first get on here skylynns_mom!!!
the only good thing about taking the 3 hr is i thought most who have to take it end up passing... although i know you have the history there. i'm sorry you have to fast, that sucks!!! let us know how it goes, ok?
Thanks! I am really hoping i pass but i dont think its likely. My whole family is diabetic on both sides, and i have always been boreder line. I know that i am at a higher risk now b/c i am much heavier then i was when i had my daughter. Also maybe that explains why i have been feeling so strange latley. If i fail then i hope its managable without meds and that it goes away right after i have Isaiah....if i dont have it then i am goign to be VERY grateful.
That's what I did too....1st thing in the morning to get it over with.....Bring a snack with you to the last draw....you'll need it! On the upside....I passed my 3 hour....I think it was b/c the 1 hour is not fasting, so if you ate anything high in carbs prior to going, you'd get a higher number.....Good luck! As they are poking you 4x, just remember that it'll all for a good reason!
well, so much for no new is good news. My doctor just called me, i failled the one hour and have to go for the 3hr tommorow. I also have to fast for 8 hours....that is going to be hell, i am hungry when i wake up in the morning.....so i am goign to go straighter there when they open at 7:30 and then get some food as soon as i leave b/c by then i'll be starving.
I was kinda the same with you. my first pg i didnt feel sick at all taking the test. this time i had every symptom you had. however the first time i didnt fast and ended up doing the three hour and this time i did fast and passed. they told me about an hour after i left. I would say if you havent heard anything yet you probably are good. not sure how your dr does it, but i would think if it came back possitive they would have let you know right away.
Yea and i agree on the whole "orange soda" concept. they always told me thats what it was like....ugh! there was one point of time i enjoyed orange soda, anymore its not so appealing!
LOL no Joy it wasn't you. There happened to be a girl at the lab taking the test the same time i was and her bf asked if it was bad and she said "no it tastes like orange soda" She had her drink before i did so i was think...thank you god its not going to be bad at all.....that change when i tasted it LOL
I'm not that far along to do the glucose test but in 2005 my best friend did it and I was there it made her feel like puking she said it was the worst taste ever.
I actually had to do the 3 hr. It sucked so bad! I passed though.. The only thing I can think of is the reason why the test made you feel weird is because you are a borderline gestational diabetic....
Ha ha ha ha ha!!! It was probably ME that said it tasted like orange pop. It's like orange syrup that you put in soda, without the carbonation!
Anyway, I did a 3-Hour glucose test a few weeks ago (and PASSED, thank You Jesus) and I had to go lay down in a back room because I started feeling so ill (and I wasn't pregnant!).
And you're right... no news is good news! You usually get the results at your next appointment.

LOL i was going to say you ate candy while you were taking the test LOL. Guess not but i bet if you ate it while you were waiting to have your blood drawn the doc would have had a heartattack when they saw those results.

Cool maybe i have a good chance of passing it even though i felt like that. I am worried b/c i am a lot heavier then i was when i had my daughter and i have a strong family history of diabetes in general.....hell most of them have it....on both sides and i have always been boredline....i just dont know what i would do if i ended up with it. I think i have to wait until my appointment which is the 3rd unless something is wrong. So I am hoping that i dont hear anything LOL, i guess no news is good news.
I failed my 1 hour (did that at 6 weeks due to strong family history of both gestational and type 2 diabetes)...the one hour was ok but I thought I might die during the 3 hour...I was so hungry that I brought Kit Kats (it was around Halloween) with me to the last draw and was stuffing them in my face on the way out of the hospital!!! That stuff is so sickening sweet that I think it would upset anyones tummy!
lol... yea, right... orange soda my butt!!!!
yea i passed. this doc does it in office so i was able to get my result right then. my sugar was 113. i wasn't expecting to fail it (i never have before) but i know every pregnancy is different so i guess you never really know what to expect!
how long before you get your results? do you have to wait until your next appt?
Yea there was another girl there that said it wasn't that bad and that it tasted like orange soda.....where the hell was she getting her soda from b/c no orange soda i have ever had tasted like that LOL.

Did you pass?
i'm glad i'm not the only one who HATES that drink! the nurse told me i was the first one she had ever heard tell her that it was disgusting... i find that hard to believe!
skylynns_mom- i felt the same way you did after drinking it and i didn't have to fast either... its just a nasty drink!!! i hope you pass too!
Brown Eye- usually between 26-28 weeks. Not sure if its the same for multipules though.
Sewpretty- OMG i would hate to have to do the 3hour.....i dont think i could make either of them if i had to fast.....its like hello i am prego and HUNGRY lol
Isaiah was moving around so much after i drank that the people sitting across from me saw my stomach moving all around and asked me if the baby was trying to escape LMAO.
I hope you passed too. I hate the glucose tests! With my first pregnancy I was told to fast before the test and I felt gross, sick and horrible and then I failed it so I had to fast again and go back and do the 3hr test... that one was torture. I went in really early and sat at a table in the hospital's lobby while all of the little food and sandwich shops were preparing to open. smelling fresh bread and not being able to eat it is unfair.
This time I'm in a different state and a different hospital. I didn't have to fast and although the glucose stuff was still gross, they had me drink the stuff and then do my usual appointment and then take blood so at least I didn't end up sitting there doing nothing while i waited.
at what month do you have to do this?
I didn't have to fast though. so would it have the same affect?
I felt that way, too! If you had to fast (no food or drink) before the test, then that is why. You drank sugar water and so it'll make you feel dizzy and ill on an empty stomach.
