Some birth defects are natural...but drinking alcohol...doing drugs...just not taking care of themselves
There are dozens of things that can cause birth defects. Not enough vitamins (such as folic acid), drinking, drugs, smoking and then many others are caused by chromosomal issues with the child itself. These are from age, egg quality and sperm quality.
Does not taking prenatal pills the first trimester cause them? I've stayed in bed most odd my pregnancy but the first trimester i didnt take prenatal.
I wouldnt say that because i didnt take any prenatals with my son and he came out perfect...but i also cant take prenatals due to the fact that the majority of them have iron in them and i myself already produce enough
Yeah if you miss prenatals on accident (even for a long time) baby is still going to be OK. baby will take what he or she needs from your body..its the mother who suffers the most when you don't take prenatals because baby will be taking your nutrients and vitamins and you need to replenish them!
I too can't take prenatals regularly (i'm supposed to only take them twice a week, but try to get in at least 3 or 4 a week) because my kidneys do not properly absorb calcium and I produce kidney stones when I take multivitamins....and I've had 2 very healthy babies and I'm pregnant with another.
You SHOULD take prenatals, but missing them doesn't really put the baby at risk for birth defects. yes, low folic acid can cause birth defects, so that is one pill I would NOT miss, but the regular prenatals are more for your energy and health and strength than for the baby's!
@Agrell: a lot of gummy prenatals don't include iron, so you could take those.
I appreciate all the responses. I over worry so its very helpful to get feedback :)
Thank you...if i do become pg again i will surely look into them :)
