which week means what? milestones.

So I can't seem to get my facts straight & I am wondering if any else remembers correctly. Some time between 20-24 weeks babies can survive outside the womb. 38 weeks is considered full term. At some point the baby is done developing & basically just gaining weight. Can anyone tell me any more specifics about these or know any other weekly "milestones"?

I am goal oriented lol, I'm setting my goal for 35 weeks, if I get there I will set another one for later lol. I have never heard of steroids for developing lungs but I did use steroids for a while for my asthma inhaler.

Typically full term for a first pregnancy is 39+ weeks and for subsequent pregnancies it can be as early as 37 weeks, but there is still a risk of the babys lungs not being mature and needing to stay in the nicu. My dr is scheduling my c section for 37w4d and gave me a series of steroid shots at my appt last week to help make sure her lungs will be ready even though this is my 2nd. If you have a history of delivering early it may be worth it to talk to your dr about getting steroid shots to help just in case.

They don't really ever stop developing they usually say rule of thumb is get as far along as possible that's safe for you and baby. I was like you and just tried to hope n make it 35 weeks more I'm going on 36 Weeks and 4 days lol

Proudmommyandwife, I posted on your thread earlier about stopping growing lol. I am somewhat trying to get a guess as to when to shoot for or hope for, like if u hit 35 weeks I'll probably be thrilled! I may go to term too, u never know, but I think at 35 weeks I'll feel relieved. Idk where I heard that at some point the baby is developed and just gaining weight, id like to know what week that is if it even exsists.

my first stopped growing too I'm almost 37 Weeks they've stopped labor a few times already and Thursday I go for monitoring to check this ones weight because I'm still small and only gained 7 pounds. You being 32 Weeks you're well out of the Woods and the baby has a great chance if survival, lungs maybe somewhat underdeveloped and the baby may stay in the hospital for a little longer but would most likely survive :-)

My daughter was born at 28 weeks. She was 2lbs 12oz. I went into active labor at 24 weeks. The longer the baby is in you the better. Their lungs aren't fully developed til about 34 weeks. I think 37 to 40 weeks is considered full term. Babies born at 24 weeks def have a harder struggle and usually not all the time have some type of longterm effects. I'm very blessed that my baby girl is fine. Most babies born that early stat in the Neonatal Intensive Care until their projected due date. My daughter was in the hospital for 94 days. So if your baby stays in full term or past your due date alittle is ok.

Not to be a downer, but viability means that at 24 weeks, babies are expected to have a 50% chance of surviving with appropriate medical care. I just wanted to point that out since the term implies all babies should survive and I think I went through my first pregnancy thinking that.

I don't think it's a milestone that has a name like "full term" but I read that a baby born after 27 weeks has >90% chance of surviving.

I hope I do carry to term! My due date is one day before an important date before my family so we r hoping for baby to be born then :-) but the Dr is watching closely because I've had a baby stop growing before, I'm stressed, I have spotted 4 times & not gaining much weight. Just curious about how the baby will do if born early, I am almost 32 weeks now so I'm sure it'll be fine no matter when it decides to come. <3

37 weeks is considered full term and between 24-27 weeks the baby can possibly survive although most likely with many complications. Its best to try to get to 40 weeks because the difference in the babies brain development between 35 - (37-40)full term weeks can be significant. But that's not to say your child wouldn't be okay if born early :-)

24 weeks is considered the viability stage although now a days some Dr's will try harder sooner. :)
